My formal medical training is limited to first responder class and similar seminars on the handling of blood-born pathogens, etc. However, I've done minor surgery on animals; killed, cleaned, and processed a lot of dead animals; and one of my areas of reading interest is paramedic-fics. I also did some reading and research for this particular entry. YouTube has videos that walk you through it step-by-step and there's online training manuals, too.

Oh, and I exchanged several thousands of words worth of emails with a neurosurgeon-in-training (or some sort of brain injury specialist) who had left a few reviews of my stuff on FFN. My questions for him/her were specific about concussions and ascertaining Sylar's mental state.
