And after all that I left off commenting on this beautiful fic, shame on me. Peter's follow/don't follow dilemma was interesting to me.
"Such a strange, strange man - so much more complicated and simple than I'd imagined. How is it that I overlooked for so long what was really special about people?" --You summed that up great. 'People are strange, this one more than most. He's complex and simple at the same time, I had no idea. How did I not see this before? What's special about people?' I didn't say this in the last chapter, but you had a comment and you said you were opening Sylar up to be more empathetic and I didn't respond to the comment, but I understood and saw what you meant. It was very clear to me. This seems like another empathy-lead-in moment.
"It was hard to imagine that he could lie here under such close scrutiny and be so relaxed, but something had broken inside of him in a good way, cracked like a shell, tumbled down like a unneeded wall." -- I loved that description. I think I sat and reread it when you had me beta is because it was just so perfect. The unneeded wall had me giggling - so clever. What a scene/chapter opener, too. For me I'm sitting here going 'uh....this is really, really odd Sylar behavior...oh, that's why!' Of course I knew there was a reason, a good one, etc, but it is so polar-opposite of the normal Sylar - he's very still and quiet and you can feel that.
Yeah, there it is, you even say it. "The part of his mind that would have once urged him to desperately commit everything to memory was quiet, letting him savor the moment for exactly what it was." The paranoid part of his brain has gone quiet.
I loved Peter's little kiss and Sylar smiling contentedly about it.
"Being with me," Sylar said, dropping his eyes to Peter's chest, where his fingers were exploring down the mostly bare sternum - such a different part than his own hairy one." -- That was the cutest little thing for Sylar to do. Mumble his question, look down at, yes, Peter's chest while he's playing with it. Its so childlike, its sweet.
"I decided you were lying." Sylar's eyes came up to Peter's face, studying it with that blank look he was so good at using when he didn't want to reveal his feelings." -- When I first read this, I had an internal cheer. I knew Peter was going to call him on some of his BS! I hoped it was the BS in question and it was, woo hoo! It makes me glad Sylar's...inconsistent with his acting that Peter can read him.
"but Sylar had decided to take a leap of faith anyway." -- That's a nice distinction to make, too. It was a choice. A nice add!
"You mean a lot. I'm … I mean I … I shouldn't have …" Sylar's face turned distressed. He didn't want to confess his sins, but he wanted the pardon anyway." --Awesome! Sylar's equivalent (for now) of "I love you". I like how canon is so nice to us: Sylar would have to end up with Peter because Peter is the only one who can understand the non-verbals of Sylar. And wanting the pardon without the confession is wonderful, magnificent.
"Sylar stretched, wriggling a little underneath Peter. It was a surprisingly pleasant place to be." -- Aww, put simply.
"I killed for my ability. He's not asking for that much. I can do this." --I loved that for some reason. "He's not asking for that much". Sylar still isn't 100% what Peter is asking for, but its easier and better and more manageable than killing, so its within Sylar's range of possibility. Sylar's way of saying, 'I got this!'
I don't know why, but Peter's....intolerance? of Sylar's mouse-trap of an apartment is hilarious. I can totally see him saying something like, "Why don't you just move into a suite?" not getting the emotional connection Sylar has to his current place (assuming, that is, of course, that its THE SAME apartment as it was in S3....). Yet I think Peter would/will do the same thing if pressed. Sylar: "Why don't you just move somewhere bigger?" Peter: "Because its MY place! Its MINE! And I like it here. You, deal with it, big guy."
The image of Sylar having his pants thrown at him is also funny for unknown reasons. It must be the face he makes about it, in my mind.
Is Peter listing off all those places as potential sex/cuddle locations or just places to have fun? Either way its funny and cute.
I love socially slow!Sylar. He makes Peter look sooo good. Sylar's thinking, "Uh...and we're going to do what with a water slide? Please tell me we're not having sex there...then again, might be interesting....he'll make it interesting...but I'd hate to fall. I'm not that good....yet *sniggers* But seriously, why is he bringing all this stuff up?"
"How many times do you think it will take?" Peter said challengingly as they walked out, not willing to drop it." -- Again, this is funny. Its the image I have in my head. Peter being sassy and a bit dorky, knowing it, doing it anyway. I picture Peter holding the door open, hand on the handle, hand on his hip, waiting for Sylar. Sylar finally gets moving and just as he passes by Peter, he throws out that number challenge. Sylar, breezing by, drops the number (100) and Peter's left to shut the door and gape suspiciously.
That *so* would shut Sylar up! I picture him having this huge *gulp* moment. That's priceless!
Personally, I don't know if my sheets smelling at all/smelling my sheets after sex is completely gross or completely sexy....jury's out on that one. But I agree Sylar would do that so its probably sexy and I just don't know it. Smell is extremely comforting. I wonder, though, is it Peter's smells or just the sex smell in general that interests him at this moment?
Again, I like the image of Sylar lazing in a cheap plastic chair in the laundry room, sprawled out, looking probably a bit similar to how he looked after screwing Janice - relaxed. This dove-tails wonderfully: "He sighed and rubbed at a pulled muscle in his calf (so lovely to have that feeling due to sex"
"directing his thoughts onward to what he needed to do to make sure Peter came back to him every morning." -- That's a great way to end the chapter. I assume more talking (surely more 'experimenting') goes on. Its a nice image.
Well done! I loved all your adds and edits, as usual.
I don't know why, but Peter's....intolerance? of Sylar's mouse-trap of an apartment is hilarious. Among other things, Peter's starting to get serious here, trying to figure out how to move into Sylar's life. Not a big theme for the story, but you know how it plays out in the next couple chapters.
The image of Sylar having his pants thrown at him is also funny for unknown reasons. It must be the face he makes about it, in my mind. Yeah, I have in mind the face he makes! A little affronted, startled and flattered/amused all at once.
Is Peter listing off all those places as potential sex/cuddle locations or just places to have fun? Either way its funny and cute. Mostly just to play. He's just been laid, he's feeling really happy, it's morning. He wants to go play and be fun and energetic. He wants to splash Sylar with water and tease him until Sylar grabs him and threatens to hold him under, then squirm around in his arms until he knocks them both down underwater, then come up, hands on Sylar, offer affection, call a truce and have it accepted, and slide into his arms for a hug. Then a few minutes later do it all over again. He wants to explore his boundaries, see if Sylar will chase him and how much the big guy will engage. Test his temper. Make out with him wherever he wants. All that stuff.
Smell is extremely comforting. I wonder, though, is it Peter's smells or just the sex smell in general that interests him at this moment? Well, Sylar certainly doesn't smell of his sheets after a wet dream or jerking off, so Peter's smell is pretty intrinsic to this. Peter's smell; Sylar's own; the smell of sex with Peter; knowing this is the smell of Peter having sex with him ... it's sort of all of that rolled into one. It's like a photograph, but so much easier to immerse himself in it.
"directing his thoughts onward to what he needed to do to make sure Peter came back to him every morning." -- That's a great way to end the chapter. I assume more talking (surely more 'experimenting') goes on. Its a nice image.
Thank you for your wonderful support and kind words! And your tireless and speedy beta read on it. I don't know what else to say as you've pegged exactly what I was going for with it, so ... THANK YOU!
