Some inspiration drawn from this XKCD strip: http://forums.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=81485 and more importantly, the comments on it, which highlight interesting points of view on flirting and pick-up artists.

Nice conversation with great characterization. Sylar is really good at circling a topic and you write him well. Loved it when he caught Peter staring at his fingers. That made my heart speed up just like it must have to Sylar's.

Sylar stood there quietly, looking off at the corner of the room, just sharing space with Peter. It was something he'd learned to do fairly recently. And it was nice. He supposed it was something friends did, but he wasn't sure, having never had one, other than maybe Luke. Nathan's memories on it were fuzzy and tainted by class and rank. All the friendships he'd seen on TV were always choked with dialogue and action. Television didn't value contemplative moments like this, where two people could relax with each other.I love this section and then the next prgh where you go no into detail about his parents. But its so true about needing to just be with someone, enjoying the same space quietly. Which of course makes me think about the relationships I form over LJ, where they are all dialogue. I suppose that's ( ... )

Thanks so much! Now I need to see if Meanie is interested in writing Sylar's answer when Peter turns the tables on him over nachos. Because you know he's going to, even if it's just a 'what if'!

Sylar, the pill and Catholics - Something this recent war on women's reproductive rights surprised me with is the high percentage of Catholic women who use birth control. The White House says that 98% of Catholic women have used or will end up using some form of birth control. That's huge. Ninety-eight freaking percent?!? And that's among Catholics ( ... )

"Oh, you're very serious, Peter." -- I laughed a bit here. Even I don't know which Sylar means - sarcasm or compliment. I think a sarcastic compliment honestly, but its true, either way. Peter's very serious about relationships and he would be a serious relationship ( ... )

I don't know what the 'you're very serious' meant either, but it's what Sylar wanted to say there, if that makes any sense in a non-crazy way. Sarcastic compliment works. My Sylar muse only elaborates to say, "I'm taking Peter very seriously. And I want *him* to know that I'm taking him seriously. About this. Some of his issues are stupid, but I understand that this relationship stuff is very, very serious to him. It is to me, too, because I need to figure out how to work him."

I think Sylar would be thinking that Peter's approach was a con. I think it will take a while for Sylar to really wrap his mind around the fact that Peter believes that crap, thinks that way, has no ulterior motives in it. Because his last name is freaking Petrelli!

And yeah, I knew that was a slam. Peter knew it, too, but he didn't at all like the insinuation that he was being insincere in his love life. That was Peter striking back.

It probably doesn't occur to Sylar that Peter probably genuinely can't do sex any other way.Yes. I figure these little ( ... )

You're welcome!

And please post the response that you wrote! If you do, may I reference it in my Bricks masterlist, linking to your entry?

I will. I finished up my last edits of it today, just going through it once more before I post it, I think.

You absolutely may reference it; I'd love that!

I have a quick beta-type question before I do post it, though, if I may: Do you think Peter would have a response to the mention of Claire/(cheerleaders)? I wrote him not really getting the reference or caring about it and moving past it and I was wondering if that was okay. She's the guy's niece after all.

I don't think Peter would get the cheerleader angle, but that doesn't change the story at all, because there's (IMO) a more obvious thing that he'd latch onto:

“No. There were girls - they were like Claire,” Sylar said pointedly.

'Like Claire'? Young, blonde ... ambitious but unsure of herself? Oppressive father figure and ... Nathan? Not available to Sylar. Antagonistic, maybe? And maybe with good reason. If he's a serial killer as a mature adult, what kind of impression was he making on girls in high school? Maybe they didn't want anything to do with him. He thought briefly of his own first successfully consummated sexual experience, having been sought out by his partner. Even if she'd just been using him, it made him feel a little special. It would suck to never have that feeling.

“So you didn’t get any in high school. What about after?”

xxx

Use as you will.
