Title: Teenage Rebellion Characters: Claire and Lyle Rating: PG Warnings: None Word Count: 400 Setting: Season 2 or 3 Notes: Written for heroes_contest drabble challenge #32 - “Trouble”
This is just fantastic. I love Lyle to pieces. I think the best part of it (besides the lovely siblingness) is the amount of detail Lyle has apparently put into his lie. I mean, if that doesn't show him as his father's son, I don't know what does... XD
Yeah. In my head, the phone number goes to Dave's older sister, who has agreed to answer Noah's questions in accordance with the lie that Lyle is going to tell. So he's got this all planned out.
And Claire's standing there thinking about how Noah almost certainly has something on his computer to log usage, so he'll see the note was written there; he'll be able to tell the voice of the woman answering the phone isn't a mature one; he'll almost certainly ask questions that will cause the story to fall apart; and don't you realize, Lyle, that you printed that on watermarked Primatech paper?
Okay, actually Claire wouldn't think of all that. But she'd know, she'd just *know* this wasn't going to fly. On the other hand, Noah might detect the lie and simply not care. Not because he doesn't care about Lyle, but because sometimes when you're a parent (or maybe this is just my experiences coloring it), you have to let some things slide. Lyle's probably like, 16 here. Going to some party where there's going to be drinking, music and partying
( ... )
Okay, actually Claire wouldn't think of all that. But she'd know, she'd just *know* this wasn't going to fly. Well, it's pretty much a given. It's never quite been acknowledged in canon, but everyone knows Noah is Batman.
Reread after sharing this with a friend of mine and had to grin again. It fits in with my own personal head-canon of Lyle being destined to grow up to be the same kind of surprise badass his dad is.
