My work has a 'use it or lose it' policy when it comes to vacation days. Last year I lost two days. When you only get ten, that's kind of a big deal. In November I realized I only had three months left to take my 8 remaining vacation days, so I scheduled in 6 of them. Today is one.
I am so thankful, too. This week has been a real drag without anything 'bad' happening. Until today, I hadn't had time to check out Advent entries or comment on stuff. I spent last night scrambling between different fannish 'obligations', or at least things I'd promised to people and thus felt quite beholden to deliver on. I got to bed at 2, got up to send the kids off to school and then went back to bed until 11. The joys of sleeping in!
Now I've cleaned up, fixed and eaten a leisurely lunch, caught up on all my emails and things I had intended to read. It's time to set some goals for the weekend.
Mundane stuff
Post the NAPM newsletter (wow, am I ever late on this! I blame the president because he didn't submit his article until yesterday, but maybe I should have nagged him more)
Christmas shop for the kids
Birthday shop for my son
Wrap up whatever I get
Put out some decorations, or at least get the box out so the kids can help put them up next week. I'm not a real 'decorations' kind of person, but they seem to be, and putting the stuff out is half the fun.
Vacuum the kitchen
Make bread
Make a grocery list for Christmas candy, go shopping
Make a batch of fudge (or whatever I decide to make ... need to make chocolate covered cherries, because my mother loves them and can't make them anymore due to arthritis)
Close on the house in St. Paul if at all possible
Find out when we close on the house in Norman (next week, I think)
D&D, pay bills - which is largely dependent on how the house closings are going. As of now, I don't have the money to pay my mortgage, much less anything else. Fortunately, I've already withdrawn and set aside the cash for gifts.
Writery stuff
Write my Advent entry for 12/20
Keep up on MBU
As you can see, writing takes up a minimal role this weekend. I'm not even going to put getting sexed up on the list, though if I manage to squeeze that in, that's great. I'm sure this means my muse is going to go crazy with ideas, as it usually does when I don't have the opportunity to indulge it. Mary, Mary, quite contrary ... :)
