Three times Ohno tried to kill Chinen, one time he didn't

This is a review of Ohno’s latest movie, Shinobi no Kuni (Mumon: The Land of Stealth).

.[I need refreshing.]
Few days ago, I got an information that a cinema in my town was showing Ohchan’s movie. I didn’t think twice and I went to the cinema that day. LOL. But hey!! I thought I need a little bit refreshing since 2 months of doing stuff (I finally got accepted in a company for internship after failed three times, and I finally got a fixed title for my thesis. Not to mention tasks and exam along the way. November 25th would be my trial for my title thesis, wish me luck.)

.
Okay, back to topic. I feel the urge to write some of my opinion about this movie. This is the first movie of Arashi member that I watch directly from cinema. Warning: This may contain spoilers.

.
First, I want to talk about the cast.
.
  1. Ohno’s stunning performance. ❤
I tell you; Ohno was totally amazing in this movie. He’s cool as a ninja, comical as a frightened husband (I LAUGHED OUT LOUD when he come home and his wife was just standing there, not letting him in XDDDDDD), skillful at handling fight eventhough I’m lazy as fuck was written all over his face.
I know they used CG (Computer Graphic) and wire action in some scenes. But the actor holds an important role too to make the scenes come out great. And I think Ohno did very well.
(Eventhough I kind of pity him after hearing story from Mistushima Shinnosuke; he said that after the wire scene, Ohno couldn’t walk properly. “I can’t beat age after all~” Ohno said, walking slowly while holding onto something. OJICHAN!!! XD)
.
Physical act aside, Ohno did great in his facial expression. Maybe you already saw this in the trailer; where he flied and landed, and then he smirked. Like OH MY GOD I WAS INTERNALLY SCREAMING, SEEING THAT SMIRK ON A BIG SCREEN I COULD DIE.
And I really like Ohno’s scream in the ending where he found his wife dead. You could feel he really screamed from his heart. The pain, the sorrow he just had, all written on his face.
.
.
  1. Chinen is not suitable to play as Nobukatsu Oda.
First, I don’t plan to start a war with Chinen’s fans nor HSJ fans. I think Chinen was good. His crying scene in front of Iseya Yusuke was wonderful.
But I just couldn’t see his chemistry with Nobukatsu Oda. I don’t know. I still saw him as Chinen, not Nobukatsu Oda.
.
If this role is supposed to be ‘the role where a junior from agency should be in’, I would rather choose Takaki Yuya (HSJ) or Kikuchi Fuma (Sexy Zone). But well, there are a lot of stuff going on without us fans knowing so ... yeah.
.
.
  1. Yuna Taira is not fit as Oda’s wife.
This actress too. Eventhough her scenes were not many, but I think she lacked elegant feeling as a princess and a wife of Nobukatsu Oda.
.
.
  1. Suzuki Ryohei’s lunatic face.
Suzuki Ryohei is a tough man, kind but too naive ninja. His father used him for his naive-ness. The scene where he realized that he was being used, his lunatic face expression was just ... excellent. Mixed emotion of craziness, sadness, madness, pain and irritation.
He was superb at fight too.
.
.
  1. I can feel why Iseya Yusuke is a high class actor.
Somehow, I can feel it. The way Iseya acted, talked, even just expression, in all of his scenes, he was an exceptional one.
Eventhough I barely watch Iseya’s movie (I only watched two of his works, Joker Game and this movie). I just suddenly had this feeling, like Ah, no wonder this guy is a high class actior.
.
.
Now, to the story and scenes.
.
  1. Impressive plot.
The story was great, there was a plot twist too. At first I couldn’t see who is the protagonist and antagonist. Turned out that there was no really a hero; you could say Mumon was just anti hero.
At first I couldn’t see where this would be going too. They were like bara-bara datta. But then when Daizen realized something for rejecting to join the war, the plot was much clearer. Who betrayed, who didn’t give a fuck, who was greedy, who actually was kind enough to lecture those beast ninja a bit of humanity.
.
.
  1. 21+ for remarkable fight scenes, directly stabbing and bloody stuff.
They performed wonderful fight scenes. Mainly it was Mumon’s scenes. Mumon VS Heibee’s brother (acted by Mitsushima, I forgot his character’s name), Mumon VS Daizen, Mumon VS Nobukatsu, Mumon VS Heibee. I just wanted to say, Ohno-san, otsukaresama deshita!! XDDD
I really like it when they fight in kawa (river). They drew lines on the ground, river-like, and then fought. When Mitsushima stabbed and died, he fell between the river, and it made a kanji for river
.
The warning 21+ wasn’t for nothing. Not rating for that kind of scenes (this is not Matsujun’s movie, LOL). It literally contained a lot of stabbing, killing, bloody stuff you would cringe if you’re not used to it.
Which is fine for me because rather than romantic movie, I prefer to watch this kind of movie. I’m 20 by the way. (LOL)
.
.
  1. Not the climax I wanted.
I just didn’t expect that the climax would be Mumon VS Heibee.
Well, okay, thing that started this all was Mumon killed Heibee’s brother, and it’s not surprising to see Mumon VS Heibee in the last scene. But you know, I expected more from Daizen. Yes, Mumon and Daizen had fight but I still want more (LOL). The movie showed that Daizen was such a great samurai and very loyal to his employer, so I was hoping more of his fight scenes I think Daizen wasn’t totally all out.
.
.
  1. Best scene for me: Ohno x Chinen, in bed.
That sounds really ambiguous, but let me tell you this is not like what you think. (LOL)
It was a scene where Nobukatsu slept in his room. And then suddenly, there was a blade lingering around his neck; guess what, that was Mumon! LIKE OH MY GOD HOW COULD HE INVADED THE CASTLE AND IT’S A FUCKING THE LORD’S ROOM.
Nobukatsu woke up and shocked to see Mumon’s face, literally in front of his face. Then they had a talk. I like Chinen’s expression (LOL). The scene was awesome and for some people who longing for Ohno x Chinen scenes, this would satisfy you.
.
.
  1. Mumon’s confusing statement.
One thing left me in question was, when Mumon stabbed Heibee (and he died, of course), Mumon said to Daizen, “Please bury him in Ise.”
I didn’t really get what he mean by that. Heibee was Iga’s ninja. Why his body should be buried on Ise? Was that because his own father use him, and make him mad?
Was Mumon understand his pain and decided to bury him in Ise instead?
.
.
  1. Bitter ending.
The ending was a bit sad. Mumon finally learned about humanity that lacked in him, in Iga’s ninjas. I didn’t shed a tear though, but really, the scene where Mumon screamed, hugged his wife, sucked his wife’s neck (to take out the poison), it was the most heartbroken scene in this movie.
.
.
  1. Whose voice is in the epilog?
In the epilog, Mumon was holding a nameless kid and try to get along with him. Then there was a voice, an adult voice, telling us that his father told him that his mother was very beautiful, ... and very intimidating (LOL). Maybe this kid was the kid who was saved by Mumon’s wife.
But then my question is, why only voice? Why didn’t they show the grown up kid? And Mumon doesn’t have to appear if the kid had grown up.
.
.
.
To put it short, this movie is great and worth to watch. If you like action and ninja, you must give this one a try. There is a mixture of action, love, humour, humanity, greed, and politics.
For the anti hero, he learned how to love and cherish people’s live. No one said about love because they had no love. But somehow it made my heart ache. The ending was indeed heart breaking.
.
.
PS: I got eargasm when I heard Arashi - Tsunagu played on the cinema. Yes, I screamed internally. XDDDD DARE DATTE SOU SAGASHITERU EVERYDAY SAA MAYOI ARUITEE SHIAWASE NO BASHO MADEEEE WHY DAREKA OKIRU SIGN-I’ll stop.
.
I think that’s all and I hope Japanese movies will keep showing on my country. Especially Johnnys movies. :) (this is the second time I watch Japanese movie in cinema. The first one was Gintama.)
.
See you someday.
XOXO
