Emily was timid and mourning in Jericho the day of her wedding. She was in the bar, trying to drown her sorrows and forget all the plans that she'd made for her special day.
Dean walked in the door clad in jeans, leather jacket and boots. Emily heard him order a beer in a voice that was cool and smooth. When she looked over at him, he was smiling at the bartender.
His smile was genuine and his eyes were beautiful. His boots and jeans indicated he was someone who worked for a living--physical labor and would rather die than be chained to a desk. His jacket was worn in places, proving that he actually wore it instead of dressing up in it. It was just a part of him.
Dean sensed Emily's stare and looked her way, lowering his beer bottle and swallowing before flashing that winning smile. Emily glanced away, embarrassed, and decided that since she'd already been spotted she'd go ahead and look at him. His smile was replaced with a smirk. There was no way he hadn't noticed her, she was the only other customer in the bar.
He slid off the barstool and walked over to her table. She found that her mouth was suddenly dry and she felt like she was in junior high. Her heart was racing and her mind went blank.
"Drinking alone? At this time of day, that isn't a good sign. Mind if I sit?"
Emily shook her head, no-she didn't mind, then she nodded yes-he could sit down.
Dean raised his eyebrows.
"Sit, please," she managed to sputter out.
Dean smiled and she bathed in the light and warmth that it projected.
Her whole life story seemed to just flow out of her. She hadn't intended to do that, he was just so easy to talk to. It was the slow and easy manner of his that drew her story out.
A little drunk, sad, and intrigued by her new acquaintance, she invited him back to The Pines. He accepted the invitation without hesitating. Emily got the sneaky suspicion that he was used to this kind of affair. Surprisingly, it didn't turn her off.
He offered her his arm, which she took as they walked down the road to The Pines. It was only a couple blocks. She hugged his arm close and told him about the places they passed and her memories of the town.
Once in her bedroom, he put his hand on her cheek and kissed her. She felt the calluses on his hand as his tongue slipped between her lips and she gripped his shoulders to keep her balance.
"I've been wanting to do that," he said in a voice that was oozing desire.
Emily just smiled and stretched up to kiss him. She smelled his leather jacket, the road, and a scent that was just him. She forgot her troubles and concentrated on his mouth.
His arms were around her waist and he pressed her to him. The feel of her body against his was maddening because he wanted to feel it without the clothing in the way.
Dean moaned into her mouth. "You sure you want this?"
She smiled up at him, a sparkle in her eyes, "I invited you up here, didn't I?"
Dean's smile slowly spread across his face before he put a hand behind her head and pulled her into a deep, possessive kiss.
Emily sighed as she allowed herself to just get lost in the feeling of him loving her.
