sesame player was all just for the cameras.

This show keeps getting stupider, thinks Sungjong, after they spend the entire recording day cleaning up for a girl group that never shows up (that they knew all along would never show up, quietly hoping they were wrong). Everyone storms off into their rooms, weary of playing pretend, until they hear Hyoan-hyung knocking on their doors to tell them the crew is leaving, and then they dutifully file back out to bow proper goodbyes to the PD and writer noonas, assured that the cameras are off, that their dorm is once again their retreat for a few more days before they show up again.

Sungjong's seen the cameras they've installed in the corner of every room and he's not sure he trusts them, but nevertheless he knocks on Sunggyu and Woohyun's door. Sunggyu opens it, sees him, and steps out right away, closing it behind him. Almost automatically they walk into the freshly cleaned bathroom, close the door, and Sunggyu pushes Sungjong against the wall and presses his mouth against his silently, more like he's suffocating him than kissing him. Sungjong shoves at his chest and he backs away a little, looking confused.

"Hyung," he says, and his voice catches a bit in his throat. "You said last time you'd be nicer to me, even in front of the cameras."

Sunggyu nods as he realizes what this is about. "I know," he mutters, looking away.

"So why? Why?" Sungjong angles his head to force Sunggyu to make eye contact. He's not getting out of this one.

Sunggyu sighs. "It's a habit," he says lamely. "And I don't really think of the consequences. But yah," he says, and he looks at Sungjong accusingly, "you know it's just for the cameras, so why do you take it personally?"

"It's always 'just for the cameras', hyung. And just because they're on, it doesn't mean you have to stop caring about me."

"I said you were pretty," Sunggyu pouts.

Sungjong rolls his eyes. "Is that supposed to cure everything?" Sunggyu shushes him, eyes darting as if to point to Dongwoo and Myungsoo on the other side of the wall. He hadn't even realized he was raising his voice. "Hyung, please," he says, and he hates the whine that creeps into his voice when he lowers it. It should be Sunggyu snivelling and begging, not him. "I just...I'm so tired of pretending. Pretending not to be hurt."

Sunggyu squints at him, and for a second Sungjong's prepared to fight, but then he sighs and turns, leaning on the wall next to Sungjong. "I know, Sungjongie. And...and I'm sorry." He swallows and in the soft bob of his Adam's apple Sungjong feels the tension dropping out of his shoulders. "I'll be better. I promise."

It's a sentence Sungjong's heard so many times before, but he takes Sunggyu's hand anyway, lacing their fingers together, resting his head on the older boy's shoulder. "Okay." One of these days it'll have to end, and Sungjong knows he'll be the one ending it. But for now he's willing to keep believing him.
