Well, I am alittle toasted from having 2 bourbon in cokes, and a modified "blue shark" so I decided to check on livejournal. I haven't been on there for a severe amount of time and.... it is still not an easy friendly online diary/journal. I am rather suprise that they haven't updated or improve their site considering the modifications of related websitesw.
Of course I haven't tried using livejournal much... I have had college friends use this site, but I don't talk to them anymore.
Oh well, sometimes seperation of friends tend to happen when real life slaps you in the face repeatedly with very little mercy.
There's only one person on here I want to communicate with and hopefully she will respond soon. :)
I also noticed there is a growing rat community on here which was nill when I joined. Perhaps they aren't as vegan/PETA extrem compared to the ones on myspace. Sometimes the ones on myspace bothers me, because they seem more concerned with passing along their message than messaging an individual's inquiry. It is rather annoying...
Even though I eat less meat products than the average American, I believe in moderation and practical consumption of certain food products then nothing at all. I have been learning according to the average midwestern economic situation that veganism/vegaterianism is often a luxury compared to the lower middle/working/poor class.
I also don't believe in forcing animals who are omnivores/carnivores to a specific lifestyle that isn't equal to their genetics/development. It is simple practical reasoning.
So I give my ratties shrimp whenever it is available, fish, or whatever meat there is but not very often.
I am becoming aware that my diet very much matches my rats' diet. That isn't a problem considering how many times I have suffered food poisoning along with IBS due to grease/high fat content.
The average american diet of fast food is just isn't compatible to my dietary needs... I lucked out unlike my close personal friends.
Since I haven't found a suitable job for myself I have been cooking a lot of healthy foods which I always make extra for the ratties.
It is satisfying work, especially since the 5 I have has not developed any tumors.
My oldest rat, Mazzy (female hairless dumboeared) has reached 2 years old and hasn't developed any tumors.... *knock on wood!* She is relatively healther other then overgrown teeth and a skin cyst.
My other rats are going to reach 1 year of age by near the end of summer. So far I have encountered minor respiratory infections (head tilt) and a small cyst.
I am hoping to Karni Mata that they won't start developing tumors!
They are all rather spoiled now and love their run around time in the apartment.
Sometimes they would even drink alcohol! Very little and watered down mind you!
Alittle enjoyment for short lived lives is a good thing. :)
As a long term rat owner for 13-14 years, I still miss my previous rats... I never forget them, not even their scent.
I would love to get another gorgeous tattoo of a rat on my body, but I am rather conservative merely the fact tattoo's are permanent. I would only trust Dusty Neal (depending if he works in town) since I am strongly familiar with his work. Other then that I don't trust anybody else unless they copied my drawing and use that.
I am just pretty darn picky!
Anyways, as I was saying... time to time I miss them because I know how much they would love to play with the ratties I have now.
One of the things I have discovered is despite having the money for medical expenses and the proper vet, domestic rats still suffer. Their bodies are cursed which is hardly fair when you witness their personality.
Often I think of my previously lost rat, Lacey considering I have another blue rat who is growing up with similiar traits like hers.
I it pains Chuck more than me considering Chuck had miss Lacey's passing away by merely minutes. (He was from leaving work to the apartment)
Unfortunately that is how things go with rats. They tend to have death in privacey then in public to worry no one.
Such charming creatures rats are. Unfortunately even this day of age it is still very difficult to convince people that pet rats are very social creatures.
Sometimes the ignorance of mankind just kills me alittle bit.
But to the postive; I have been very fortunate lately that my rats have only required minor care. I am still weary of tumors/respiratory infections, but I am hoping with good breeding and healthy diet/sanitation.
It also helps that I have a very good parner, Chuck, who has fallen in love with my rats is willing to do what he can to educate himself and help me with them.
In a creepy/disturbing way the rats are our children... but they cost less, quiet, and much cutier than real children.
Hey, in this day of age there is no guarentee that one's children are willing to take care of their parents anymore.
Often it pisses me off when unexperienced rat owners tell me to get pet dogs, etc as pets rather then pets due to their lifespan.
Dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, etc are still very exspensive. I know they are worth the personality and longer companionship however they aren't practicle when living in an apartment. Meaning pet fees are rather exspensive!
Also when an owner has lived with rats as long as I have... it is so hard to give up on owning rats when their personablity is so rewarding.
Basically, to be a good rat owner is to accept a rat's curse as her/his own.
I have lost many rats, but by a rat loss knowledge is gain which should be shared to others.
In many ways, a beloved rat's death is not in vain.
Anyways, I have written too much.
2 bourbon and cokes and a blue shark (vodka+tequila+blue curacao) can make one write too much.
