my poor little nerd

Man, Thomas is looking a little sad these days.

Don't get me wrong, he's still adorable (and my nerd-boy forevar) but he was, frankly, never the most well-made of my dolls to begin with. As near as I can tell, the dye wasn't thoroughly mixed into his resin when he was cast; if I put his body under a strong light, it becomes painfully obvious that poor Thomas is piebald, with big patches of yellow and equally big patches of pink. (It does take a fairly strong light to bring this out, though, so I didn't notice for the first year I had him--no sending him back after that.)

As if that wasn't enough, he's also a good three-and-some years old, so his neck and hands are definitely a little yellower than the rest of him. (Oddly enough, Jack has the same body, of almost the same vintage, and he's fine.) The contrast between Thomas' neck and his jaw is pretty harsh, although some of that has got to be the three-and-some-year-old fading MSC; I've always loved his default faceup, and it's not damaged in any way, but the MSC does seem to be whitening a little.

Poor little nerd-boy's always had it rough, I guess. Maybe later this summer I'll give his body a good Oxi-clean soak and see if it helps with anything.
