I've barely watched any of the nominated movies... BUT Jon Stewart is hosting! So, if I had watched more movies it would be a double win, but I'll settle for the single.

Uuuuuuuuuh... well, I wrote a whole thing on JUNO on my LJ, so I won't go into it, but I will say this... this is a very polarized movie... people who love it, LOVE IT, and people who hate it, HATE IT. I, personally, hated the majority of it... especially the first 15 minutes, which were just... f-ing unwatchable to me (the dialouge was... ugh). I will admit that the last, say, half hour really picked it up and became, like, an actual movie, but it didn't make up for the rest of the s--t I had to sit through. ^_^;;;

I have a question though... I've gotten into some arguments with people about this, as it's the only thing in the movie I thought was really clever; in the scene were Jason Bateman and Juno are in the basement together, and he comes clean about leaving his wife, do you think he was implying something creepy to JUNO? See, I don't think so... I think it was a mislead, which elevates the movie, in that you're lead to believe he's going to do something creepy (as he's sort of been acting slightly creepy the whole movie), but it's actually that he's guilty about entering into this adoption arrangement with JUNO, knowing that he's going to leave his wife, and that he's actually been thinking about it and planning it since BEFORE they even met Juno, and that her horrified reaction to him coming out about it isn't because she thinks he's come onto her, but because she sees her vision of this perfect couple, the most "together" adults she knows, falling apart in front of her, and that's what freaks her out... the prospect that her child has nothing to look forward too.

See... if it's like THAT, I can be a little forgiving of JUNO, because it's a brilliant mislead and some great, complex, character stuff... if it's just that Jason Bateman is being creepy and propositioning her, like others insist to me, then I can't forgive this movie, because that's waaaaaaaaay to predictable and formulaic. What do you think?

Well, I wouldn't say I LOVED it, but I do like it :)

I agree that it's an awesome mislead. I mean, I fell for it - there was a HUGE draw-back-and-cringe-lots moment when she was swaying his hips and then he brings her hands up around his neck. But the dancing is pretty innocent - she being very pregnant and he not wanting to be Daddy and really not doing anything overtly pervy. I mean, he didn't try to kiss or fondle her. No, they were each using the other for something: Juno for the perfect couple to unload the unplanned kid onto, Him for being cool again and reliving his youthful ambition of rockstardom. Juno is a catalyst for his departure from the marriage, both in the baby-bringing and the rekindling his (apparantly suppressed) passion for music and life before marriage.

Plus, Juno's reaction is totally all about the baby. She begs him not to do anything because they're an aweosme couple the baby is going to. And she wallows on about relationships (btw, her Dad is pretty awesome LOL). So it was a brilliant decoy... because I cringed at first. A lot.
