Thanks! Happy CNY to you too!

I only got one hung bao. Oddly, it was from one of my dad's coworkers. It's a lucky toonie though. Maybe I'll buy a lotto ticket with it. :3

That is odd.. unless your Dad is close to his coworker?
But hey, you could hit the jackpot from that ticket! :O!!!

So you can spend the lucky money if it's on something that depends of luck or something?

I got red packets a couple times but I didn't find out any meaning behind them until later ('You can't spend it, that's lucky money. Like your luck for the year.' Me- 'Really? Crap no wonder I'm boned XD').
I bought comics with them ;;;;;

Well, traditionally you get two from your parents; one to bless you for the year which stays by your bed, one you can spend right away on anything you want. Traditionally they also come in either twos, or a multiple of two, for luck reasons.

...I have a horde of red pockets saved up by my bed ^____^;;;;

Not especially, but she's a little... obsessive. ^^;; Still, it was a nice gesture.

I don't think I've ever gotten any red envelopes from my parents, mostly because we're much into traditional stuff. I do get them from my grandparents usually, but not in twos (contains $20 bills though!) Haven't seen any grandparents in a while though so I don't know when I will get any more, if at all. I'm getting kind of old for this I guess anyhow. (But I likes the presents!! Hee!)

Yeah I think the tradition is to give two envelopes when you've just married, one from the groom and one from the bride. Then later on you can combine into one envelope (saving envelopes!) or something.

Hey, as long as you're unmarried and have older relatives, you'll get red pockets! Who says no to free money?! XD
