Well, amigoes, I am finally at Ithaca College. I have left you all for a better place. Ha, just kidding. Nashua is my home, but I sure am thriving out here, even though my auditions for this first semester were a disaster. My roommates are awesome; one's a film major and the other's a music major. The theatre kids are a great bunch. I've made good friends with most of the Musical Theatre kids and a good bunch of the Acting kids.
Friday was like a day out of a dream. On Friday afternoon, the theatre department had a giant meeting in the Hoerner Theatre that was somewhat akin to what I always wished could happen at Bishop Guertin: A DRAMA PEP RALLY! There was music, surprises, gifts, faculty skits, we all introduced ourselves, and I met my Big Brother in the department. He's directing one of the shows this semester. After that we were informed of the Greet the Meat party at the theatre house off campus, which was referred to as a "chance to kill your livers." That night I stayed up till 2:30 watching Hook and waiting for a pizza that never came. So, come Saturday, I wake up to a phone call from one of the freshmen MTs, and suddenly I'm off to the movies with a bunch of kids I don't even know, but who turn out to be Junior Acting Majors! And they are the coolest kids around. We then go out to dinner in a classy Ithaca Commons restaurant, get a first-hand tour of Ithaca's two small, family-owned independent-movie theatres! The coolest fucking places on Earth, playing movies like Broken Flowers and The Constant Gardener and The Aristocrats! Then we get to the party around 10:30 and wasted no time. My Big Brother made sure I knew that it was his job to get me "shit-faced, piss-drunk," which he wasted no time in by continuing to buy me drinks. Many of you probably already knew this, being present at the cast party when I called. Believe me, there was much fun being had even after that. I had the greatest time and met some of the greatest people, barely able to walk by the end of the party around 2:30. I get driven back to campus and head into my room, only to find that my roomate has a girl in bed with him. Oh, boy. But they don't seem to be bothered by me and I'm pretty tired anyway, so I'm right off to bed. Up at about noon, it's a day to ease it off. I go to breakfast with some of the MTs, but we take it easy, recalling what we had done the night before (and I can honestly say I did not do anything I regretted, so HA!) Not a bad first weekend.
College is time consuming and there is much work to be done. I miss you all. Drop me a line, I always love to hear from someone back home. Good luck with the new school year!
