I'm going to use this holiday break to hide from the world, so here is my take on the Yuletide meme that's been going around lately. I actually imported all my previous Yuletide stories from the old archive just to make the links easier to make, just so you know how dedicated I am to this meme.

Jeremiah - FandomRating: Teen And Up Audiences

Summary:
At six, Theodora Colderidge wanted three things when she grew up: someone to love, a baby boy, and a pony.
This was the fic I wrote in order to participate in that year's Yuletide, since I didn't start up in 2004 like so many others. I just remember being anxious about this story, but I shouldn't have worried so much, even though I thought my femslash is a little wobblier than my other types of relationship fic. The recipient liked it, and I got to explore a little bit more of the Jeremiah 'verse than what was shown in the show.

Relationships: Jeremiah/Kurdy Malloy
Characters: Jeremiah (Jeremiah), Kurdy Malloy, Mr. Smith
Summary:
Jeremiah is injured; Kurdy helps.
The prompt was for Jeremiah and Kurdy, and hurt/comfort. I also don't know how well I fulfilled the request, but I really loved writing this anyhow. Any excuse for me to write about Kurdy and Jeremiah and particularly Mr. Smith, my bb. Man, I miss Jeremiah. Maybe I should do a rewatch of it soon. This was such an underappreciated little show.

PatlaborRating: General Audiences

Summary:
When Ohta pilots Alphonse, Izumi is none too pleased.
My Patlabor ficlet was a Yuletide treat which I decided to tackle when I spotted it on the pinch hitters mailing list. I missed out on making the actual claim but I decided to write something anyway. I love Patlabor (because police and mecha) and I could bang out something really quick. I find the anime fandoms don't get too much love during Yuletide, and in fact I might write up a couple of treats for some of my tiny anime fandoms this year.

RPF - Food Network (tv)Rating: General Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Alton Brown
Summary:
Elton was already starting to drift off, his arms hanging loosely on the cart's cracked, plastic bar. However much he looked forward to spending his weekends with his uncle--it sure beat helping Mom hot-glue centerpieces for the Atlanta Rotary's annual fundraising dinner--sometimes Uncle Alton was kind of...boring.
My main fic was meant to be a Food Network RPF starring Alton Brown, but it turned out that the mythology and the continuity involving Alton's "family" on Good Eats provided such rich fic fodder that I had to write this instead. It was awesome fun, though.

Summary:
She is his anchor.
Just a short and sweet ficlet starring Dan and Katie from the short-lived and long-lamented NBC drama Journeyman. Written as a Yuletide treat.

Naomi Novik - Temeraire seriesRating: General Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Temeraire, Volatilus
Summary:
Temeraire ponders the clouds.
I remember the Temeraire fic was a pinch hit which I did manage to nab, and I wrote it within an hour and posted it just before the archive opened. I just love that the dragons in this series are sentient and aware and that the relationship between humans and dragons is mutually beneficial. And I adore little, simple Volly.

Arthur (TV)Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Arthur Timothy Read, Buster Baxter, Dora Winifred "D.W." Read
Summary:
A Postcard from Buster goes awry.
My assigned fic for Yuletide 2007 was for Arthur, the PBS cartoon about a young aardvark and his friends. This was the year that Postcards from Buster, the spinoff which starred Arthur's best friend Buster Baxter, garnered some controversy when Buster visits a Vermont farm owned by lesbian couple. Some PBS stations refused to air that episode, and I wanted to explore how the children of Elwood City would react to Buster's encounter. And it's really a story I would never have written were it not for Yuletide.

ClaymoreRating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warning: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Galatea (Claymore)
Summary:
Galatea's final day of sight.
Another fic in another small anime fandom, this time about a minor character in an anime series about a group of young girls who are turned into half-demons in order to battle the monsters which plague their world. This was simply a character study, and I was sort of faily at this because I was much more familiar with the anime series instead of the manga on which it was based, and I sort of struggled with voice and POV. This is the fic I'm most disappointed with, I think.

Up (2009)Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Ellie Fredricksen/Carl Fredricksen
Characters: Carl Fredricksen, Ellie Fredricksen
Summary:
Adventure is sometimes found close to home.
Disney and Pixar movies of the year are well-represented in Yuletide, and this was no exception. I was thrilled when I matched on Up, and even more thrilled that my recipient wanted more of Ellie being awesome. I also wished for awesome Ellie, and I think I succeeded. It's certainly the one Yuletide story that's been recced more than any other of mine, plus it garnered the most comments. It's a credit to Pixar for creating a love story in that first 15 minutes of the movie.

Summary:
It's This American Life. Each week on our program of course, we choose a theme and bring you a variety of different stories on that theme. Today's show: In the Land of the Living, stories of the October Incident, the zombie apocalypse and what happened afterwards.
This was written in the throes of Yuletide madness that year. I just saw NPR and zombies in the request and I thought about a what-if scenario in which the zombie apocalypse happened. What would This American Life's take on the incident be like?

Summary:
Navigating Subspace is a lot harder than it looks.
Aaaahh the year of the Scott Pilgrim movie and again another attempt at femslash for me. Again, pretty well received, though I now wish my recipient had mentioned reading the original graphic novels because there's so much more fodder there to build up on. As the fic is, I'm satisfied with it.

The Secret of Peacock Flats (4778 words) by
fivefootnothingChapters: 1/1
Fandom:
Adventures of Brisco County Jr.Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Brisco County Jr, Lord Bowler, Socrates Poole, Prof. Albert Wickwire
Summary:
Another mission from the government sends Brisco and Bowler to a small town called Peacock Flats. Will they return with their biggest bounty ever?
Last year's Yuletide offering was my first attempt at writing Brisco County fic after RPing the character in various places around the webs. I wanted this fic to be more epic and much longer than it turned out being. Unfortunately, I ended up running out of time for it to represent the perfect Brisco episode I pictured in my head. Oh well. It was still a fun little romp and I'm glad some readers spotted the anachronisms and the references which made the original show such a fun one.
And now I'm biting my nails in anticipation about this year's fic. Or fics if I get around to writing some of those requests. Mostly I'm worried that my recipient won't enjoy what I wrote. But this happens every year for me and for the most part, all reactions have been positive. So I have hope.
