Alas, again I have not caught up with anything. I spent most of yesterday with my brother just watching TV in his room, and talking, seeing as it was his last day. So, today we all drove down to Selwyn College in Cambridge, and he got his key and a room and everything, and it was all kind of slightly insane. I knew he was going to university and everything (obviously, I'm not that stupid) but it just felt really real today. His room's nice though. It's bigger than his bedroom at home, which was kind of surprising, seeing as he's got the biggest room in the house.

Anyway, it's all kind of brown and beige, and fairly standard, but still nice; he's already rearranged the furniture! The wall's covered with blu-tack stains from where past students have put posters up, but he refuses to put any up (because apparently it's too dismal). Anyway, I'm digressing here. He actually really doesn't like it there. He's been saying ever since he applied that he didn't want to move away from his friends, and have to meet new people and start all over again (in a social sort of way). There's quite a few people there, and some of them do seem quite higher class, and he felt a tad awkward, because he didn't go to a private school or anything, just a normal, awful one, like me.

And, he hates the city of Cambridge. It's very bike-friendly, which means there's pretty much no parking space, and cyclists everywhere. I think they discourage driving there. He's going to try and apply for a parking space, because students at Cambridge aren't allowed to park within a 10 mile radius of the university without a permit from the dean (I think).

So, we left him at about 6pm, and it was horrible because it felt like we were just abandoning him there in this place he didn't want to be in. I knew it'd be bad coming home without him, because he's lived at home all his life up 'til now, like most people do, but the fact that he doesn't actually like it makes it much worse. Eeeshk, I just hope everything improves this week. He meets with his tutor and has his first classes in the week, so I'm hoping he'll be able to meet some people, although he really doesn't want to (my mum and dad, especially my mum were trying to encourage him to talk to people, but I understand him completely, because I prefer the social recluse type of life - hence LJ :) Sorry if that offends anyone).

Gah, I've rambled on and this has become a looong entry. But, I'm not done!

Also, this week we found out that my dad's diabetic. Last weekend he told me that his students thought he'd lost weight (he's a lecturer btw) and that he was constantly thirsty, which are classic symptoms of diabetics, so I tested his blood glucose levels, which were high. On Friday the doctor confimed it (as type 1 diabetes, although I think it's more likely to be type 2, which is what most adults get), so we've been adjusting to that. I'm diabetic as well, so I've been helping him quite a lot with everything, but the doctors haven't been very helpful. They suggested he just gets me to work out his dosage, and teach him how to use the equipment! It's not my job because I don't have a doctorate. I can't calculate his insulin dosage for him, because I'm not qualified. The hospital helped me when I was first diagnosed, so why shouldn't they help him? I have type 1, which is the genetic one, which if it's in your genes, you'll definitely develop, whereas type 2 is the one brought on by lack of exercise and over eating.

Anyway, I suppose continual updates on these two major things will be heard from me in the days/weeks to come. What a joyous weekend it has been!
