Beware the dog!

CAVE CANEM!

In Pompeii (the Italians spell it Pompei) is this chilling warning at the entranceway of the House of the Tragic Poet: Cave canem! Beware of dog! Attenti al cane! The mosaic-mutt in this ancient Pompeian household is now the least of our problems, but something here suggests the eternal call to caution, to be wary of, to be careful, to worry. Beware of computer viruses and spyware. Beware of spam! Back off my erections, already!

Beware of tainted spinach, of Peter Pan peanut butter. Beware of cholestorol, caffeine, nicotine, high blood pressure, elevated sugar levels, traffic, flight delays, expired coupons, DVD-R duds. Me, I say beware of a president that leashes to an unnecessary war under false pretenses and then tries to save face by muzzling us even further.

Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war! cleverly connects this to dogs.

Beware of religious phonies and extremists hi-jacking America. Beware of sidewalk ice. I almost slipped and broke my ass yesterday.

But I rant. Sorry. Beware of rants.

mosaics, dogs, beware, latin, pompeii
