Fred and David

La Salle graduates David Andreozzi (left) and cousin Fred Krapf with GD.

I just received this photo from Fred Krapf, class of 1990 and now an English teacher, shown here at his graduation. I had never seen it before. He and his cousin David Andreozzi were both remarkable honor students I had for four years and they remain among my greatest teaching memories.

I could write many nice things about each of them, but it is enough to say that they were both enormously friendly, always around to chat before and after class (Room 115, then B3) and other times too. The family owned two Italian restaurants - the Welcome Inn on Chalkstone Avenue in Providence and Alfredo's on Thayer Street, where I dined many a time, usually before going to the nearby Avon Cinema.

The e-mail that contained this photo came with the following note, which I add primarily because it and the photo gave my otherwise dismal day a happy finale:

Professore,

I found a pic I knew I had somewhere...I dug it up today. Some of the best
times of my life were spent in your classroom. You were an inspiration.
Post this if you feel moved to :)
