eight [Accidental Video; Japanese]

 *The video opens on an empty library, although you can hear thumping sounds in the background. These are soon followed by a startled cry and crashing noises.  Takato falls into the camera view, and is quickly buried by a pile of books.  After a moment the pile begins to move and the still obviously bruised boy struggles out of the pile.*

[He pauses a moment. The kid needs to check? What-huh?]

What are you doing, anyway?

*Takato grins and clambers out of the book pile. He still has a few fading bruises on his face from his encounter with Malice, but it obviously isn't slowing him down much.*

I was trying to find something to read.

[Don't think Hughes didn't see those, either, but for the moment he'll leave that subject behind.]

What kind of book? First I got here I did a lot of reading in there, bet I can direct you to something.

I don't know. Something in Japanese would be nice. I don't think I could read any of these. Or something with lots of pictures I could show to guilmon.

[Hmm.... he's thinking.]

Well, there isn't a lot in Japanese or none, i havne't seen any, it's all English and some other bizarre languages... I don't want to say "check out the public library" 'cause of the monsters but that's really where you'd probably find picture books.

Oh, if you want I can pick up a few for you tomorrow! I need to head out that way, anyway. [He's lying, but he just wants to help!]

Yeah, I was starting to think that from what I've found so far. But there has to be something in here I can still look at. Maybe something about art or drawing.

But isn't that dangerous? With all the monsters, I mean.

A lot of the books on documentation seems to have been destroyed there. I don't really understand why, but I think it has to do with the reason where here--scientists don't want us to know it or something. [He makes that "I don't know" grumble that goes with a shrug.]

Noo, shouldn't be! Luckily the fighters in the city keep that route clear in case people need to restock food, so it'll be fine.

Really? That's kind of a strange thing to do.

Oh, that makes sense. It was still kind of a scary trip the one time I went over there.

You know how it is: every motive has a start. There has to be some reason behind it, it's just a matter of piecing it together.

It's probably best you not go anywhere by yourself, Takato, being a kid. Wouldn't want you hurt.

*The boy nods.*

And sometimes the reason isn't the obvious one.

...Yeah, I don't want to make guilmon worry anymore. I just wish I could help him fight like we did at home. We can't help very much like this.

Hmmm.... [Oh, that opened some interesting possibilities in his head. He needs to talk to this kid more often--he's like the key to an unsolved riddle.]

Not thinking about getting that chip out, then?

I'd like to, but I don't think I know enough about it yet. And with everything going on right now I didn't want to bother anyone.

Good point. I don't know much about them still, but it doesn't matter all that much, I guess.

I still want to get it out though. We could help people a lot if I could use my cards again. Or if guilmon could evolve.
