It's the Day After 9/11 - at least here it is. If I read my clocks correctly, it is still 9/11 in America, although most of the activities and celebrations (such as they are) will have been over by now

Then she surprised me because she defended all those things. She also said that we needed to continue the war in Iraq.
I countered with saying it was based on lies. I told her that there was no weapons of mass destruction, that there was no connection between al Quaeda and Saddam Hussein, and that our occupation in Iraq was causing more terrorists to be created.
She didn't believe anything that I said. She believed strongly in Bush and wished that she could vote for him for a third time.
Then the kicker, which I should have seen coming: she proclaimed that this was the Holy War predicted in Revelations and this was going to bring about the return of Jesus.

I keep seeing the polls for this administration and I have a hard time believing that if he bottoms out at roughly 30% that there are 3/10 people in this country that are that deluded as to think Bush is a messenger of God.
If anything, he and his evil cabal are using those who are devout and faithful for their own greedy needs to consolidate their lust for power.
They are not filled with the glory of God. Not in the least.
If anything they are agents of Satan. Trying and succeeding in tricking those are firm believers in Jesus.
Except, well, these followers somehow or another don't seem to live up to the life of Jesus. They seem unconcerned with issues of poverty and social injustice. Instead they concentrate on issues which Jesus never talked about: gay marriage, abortion, guns and oh yeah - tax cuts for the wealthy.
It boggles the mind.
So the Moslem extremists hate the US because we are the biggest symbol in the world of hedonism. Plus we are hypocrites when it comes to foreign policy. Historically we have crowed about the ideals of democracy and then we have overthrown freely elected leaders of foreign countries when it suits the monetary needs of American based multinational corporations. (E.g. Chile's Salvador Allende and ITT and Anacanda Copper)
And the U.S. government has a long sordid history of propping up nasty vile dictators that torture their own people, but they allow our economic interests to supercede human rights of their own citizenry.
So it is the hypocrisy and the torture that is supported by American foreign policy that fuels the hatred of the U.S. Well, along with pop culture and "Girls Gone Wild" DVDs.
I am cautiously optomistic that the November elections will restore checks and balances in the U.S. government by having an opposition party in control of one house of Congress. That is unless the fix is in and the elections have already been preprogrammed and stolen without a single vote cast.
