...in a long list of guilty pleasures is the new American Gladiators TV show.
Before you laugh, think:
Professional athletes beating the snot out of average Americans on national TV?
Is there any part of that concept you don't like?
Yes, it's cheesey. Yes, it's over the top. Yes, if you find Hulk Hogan annoying, don't watch it, because he's on camera a LOT. But the fact is that I find cheesey, over the top, and, oddly enough, Hulk Hogan tremendously entertaining. Besides which there's this:

I've seen a couple youtube videos that offer INCONTROVERTIBLE PROOF that the show is fake and the competition is rigged. I have four points in response to this:
1. These accusations are being made mostly by fat nerds.
2. Honestly, I don't think I care.
3. I'm simply not convinced by the evidence offered.
4. That said, in one particular case, I would actually be happy and relieved to find that the contest was rigged: the blue-clad male contestant in the show's second episode was extremely annoying, and he ended up "succumbing" to "exhaustion" at the end of the obstacle course. I was very glad to see him sent home, because it meant I would never again have to endure his constant "This is just like back when I was a kid in Tennessee..." anecdotes.
At the end of the day, all I can say in my defense is that this show is tremendously fun to watch. For me. Maybe that makes me weird. But before you decide to settle on that conclusion, let me remind you about this:
