Karaoke: The MMORPG
So I'm watching this singing contest on Chinese-language TV right now. It seems to be a cross between "American Idol" and the "Ultimate Karaoke Fighting Championship" except that the judges' commentary is serious (as opposed to entertaining), and the pairings are picked at random from a box.
The thing that amuses me most though, is that they're referring to the elimination sing-offs as "PK" (yes, it's a commonly used slang term, along with "VS", in Taiwan).
Out of the singers who are PK'd, each judge then gets to choose one to re-enter the competition. So...it's like they re-spawned!
