Yuletide author here. Based on some anon threads I've seen around recently I understand that the general consensus is that the fic I wrote for you violates the spirit of your DNWs. If this is not the case, please stop reading here and delete this comment. If it is the case, I cannot apologize enough. I feel terrible if you received a fic you hated or that made you uncomfortable for your present this year. I see you screen your comments -- if you want to forget about everything and just look forward to next Yuletide with a better author, please just ignore me. However, if you are open to it, I would like to try and do better taking into consideration that poly and open relationships trigger your infidelity DNW. It would be a gen fic; it turns out I'm very uncomfortable with the thematic overtones of breaking up Hajime and Yuko. But if you want Fly Daddy Fly genfic, please post and reply to this comment and I will try to get something written (maybe not in the next couple of days but I will try).
I wanted to give a little bit of my thought process about where the fic came from -- I have previously always viewed Sunshin and Hajime's relationship as more paternal so I confess I was a bit thrown by the shipping prompt. But on rewatching the film I started to see where you were coming from. However, the thematic arc of the film and the shipping fic I felt capable of writing were so focused on Sunshin finding a family and it felt so incredibly wrong to me for him to be breaking up a family for that to happen. So I started working on it thinking of it as a threeway relationship with Yuko or with Yuko aware of and supportive of Sunshin and Hajime's relationship. I worried a bit about your infidelity DNW -- I myself list infidelity as DNW, but for me it is because the intentional dishonestly in relationships is the problem, rather than the number of people involved. Since I wasn't sure if poly counted as infidelity in other people's/general fandom spaces' definitions, I emailed the mods and asked. The reply I got back was that an open relationship absolutely didn't violate an infidelity DNW and neither did fully consensual polyamory, although not everyone necessarily liked poly. They offered to contact you to ask how you felt about poly, but my impression from their response was that there could be no objection to an open relationship, so I thought I should just go with that. This was clearly a bad misreading on my part, so I guess I am asking for too late what I ought to have asked a month ago -- given that your prompts for FDF (unfortunately the only one of your fandoms I'm familiar with) are so ship-based, would you rather genfic or shipfic with polyamourous undertones?
Anyway, I am so sorry for ruining your Yuletide if I did in fact do so. I hope I can make it up to you.
