Dear writer o' mine...
Hi there, and many thanks for coming to read this letter. I hope you're even half as excited as I am! Just the fact that you're out there -- liking one (or more) of my rare fandoms, and writing a story for me -- is making me happy. So please don't agonize over anything; just try to enjoy yourself and I promise I'll love the end result to bits :)
All of the fandoms I'm requesting are rare in the sense that there's a grand total of zero fics for them. Unless you count the stuff I've written, but uh... let's not! However, a couple of them are at least fairly accessible.
My likes/kinks are pretty much all over the place, so I'll simply mention a few things that come to mind. This means that there's no reason for you to worry if the stuff I list aren't what you had planned! I'm only writing this to give you some ideas; I'd personally panic if my recipent were to leave blank details and no letter (so I'm just gonna assume you feel the same *sheepish grin*). That said, here we go: Above all else, I'm extremely fond of characters who are unflinchingly loyal. Equality and unspoken trust between partners, unrequited love and pining that ends up not being that unrequited after all, rescues, adventure, humor, strong/silent characters opening up, rivalry, animals, etc. I definitely prefer a plotty story over a pure PWP, but I certainly won't mind if you feel like including a sex scene.
My requests this year are somewhat focused on BL/slash, I'm afraid. In the case of two it's actually canon, so I hope it's not a problem for you. But if you feel more comfortable writing gen, that'd be totally cool as well!
Now then, my actual requests:
Cyborg 009 (1979) ~ Jet Link/Joe Shimamura
If this is what we matched on, I'm gonna be utterly stoked. Almost everyone into anime/manga is familiar with Cyborg 009, but this particular version? Yeah, not so much... I've only met two people who's seen the 1979 series, so if you're about to become the third that'd be pretty awesome in its own right! *coughs* Anyway! Nothing would make me happier than a fic pairing these two up -- whether it's just slashy hints or something full-blown. Beyond that, I'll be thrilled with anything! But, if you want some ideas... I'd love to see something episode-related, exploring the aftermath we so rarely got to see. There's so many episodes I love, but I think my favorite is the 30th (the one with Joe's "father"). Since Jet was the only other cyborg who was present during the end -- and the one to stop Joe from killing himself, pretty much -- there's plenty of fodder to be had there. I'd also love to see a story exploring their pre-series life together; racing and whatnot.
I first watched this series when I was six years old, and it's remained my favorite anime ever since. I love every single character (including the ones that only showed up in one episode). As for Jet and Joe -- aside from what I listed in my original request -- I'm also really intrigued by the fact that their past lives are so similar, yet yielded such different people. It'd be really interesting to read about them opening up to each other, and talking about Jet's gang or Joe's time in the juvenile prison.
Sanctuary (manga) ~ Asami/Hojo/Tokai
Tokai is in love with Hojo, that much is undeniable -- but I've always thought that Hojo actually returned those feelings. So I'd love to see a story exploring their relationship, whether you just want to stick with pure canon or actually get them together. I also love the relationship between Asami and Hojo, so feel free to write something (gen or BL/slash) about them if you'd so prefer! Likewise, a fic featuring all three would be great as well. Really, I'll be thrilled no matter what you end up going with ;)
This is such a superb manga; one of the best I've ever read. It definitely hits quite a lot of my favorite kinks, especially when it comes to the loyalty between the men. I really could go on and on about my favorite scenes and so forth, but really... I love every aspect of the series and the characters, so you honestly can't go wrong! But if you do want something to go on, I've always wondered what happened after the end -- Hojo must be utterly wrecked after having lost Asami, and I doubt Tokai could just sit idly by (no matter how much he respected their relationship).
Les Aigles De Rome ~ Gaius Julius Arminius AKA Ermanamer/Marcus Valerius Falco
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, anything about these two will make me thrilled. Write about the early days when they hated each other's guts, the friendship that slowly but surely took root, becoming blood brothers, their time in the legion, being lovers, the fallout... anything!
Nothing will convince me that Arminius isn't desperately in love with Marcus. But Marcus is too focused on the poetic notion of "love" that he fails to see what's right in front of him. Just look at the fallout scene; Arminius loses it because he's jealous and heartbroken that Marcus would choose a girl over him, nothing else. And, despite his words, he still watches out for Marcus from the shadows -- and Marcus on his part never stops wearing the necklace which embodies their oath, making it clear that he still cares deeply for Arminius. Like I said in my original request, I'll be happy no matter what time you decide to set your story in -- although I'm anxiously awaiting the third volume, so I certainly wouldn't mind if you felt like writing your take on what should happen ;)
Venus Wars ~ Jeffrey Kurtz/Hiroki Senoo
First off, I'd be equally happy whether you write something based on the manga or the anime -- they're very different in both plot and characterization, but I love them equally. That said, I thought the relationship between Kurtz and Hiro was fascinating. In the anime Hiro is on his way to becoming just like Kurtz, although he either doesn't realize it or refuses to admit it. In the manga their relationship is more multifaceted and ripe for interpretation (the scene in the rain, OMG). Whichever direction you decide to take them in, I'll be thrilled!
NGL, I see so much potential for angry rivalslash -- that just might grow into something more -- when it comes to these two. No worries if you feel differently, though! I'd also love to see whether or not Kurtz (in the anime) is right in his confident assumption that Hiro will return, or a missing scene (from the manga) during the rain scene -- how did Kurtz get Hiro to lower his gun and allow himself to be rescued, anyway?
