In the grand tradition of prepping for holidays MONTHS before they occur, I would like to direct your attention to April 2010.
Yuri's Night - a celebration of all past, present, and future achievements in space - is April 12, and parties will happen all over the world (all week long) in commemoration of Yuri Gagarin's first flight into space as well as the world's achievements in space from then on.
There will, of course, be a Yuri's Night party in NYC, and the organizers are looking for costumes. In past years, there have been design competitions (with neat prizes) and runway shows of clothing either inspired by space or meant to be worn in space. Creativity and style are totally encouraged. (The costume contest is pretty much a given, but the runway show is contingent on having enough submissions to make a separate show.)
