back to school...

No, not quite yet - I have a little over two weeks left before I really do have to head back to school. Today, while watching over not only Sonja but my friends two younger kids (aged 6 and almost-3), I actually managed to map out my first unit for the grade 12's, a.k.a. year 2 of Higher Level IB Biology. That's 2 of my 3 classes, so it's a good place to start.

Since this is the second time I'm teaching this part of the course, I'm now at the "tweaking what I did last time" stage. Already, the first part of the course has been taught differently from when I did it the first time, so of course I have to do the second part differently. We have a field trip scheduled for Sept 21st - three weeks into school. Early, planning-wise, but the only day the Field Centre (Yep, it's the annual field-trip-to-a-field!) could give me for 120 students. I actually had to approve the date in June before taking off for the summer - they're not too happy with Friday field trips, but I gave them as much notice as I could!

So, much of today's planning was rearranging & combining the Ecology unit with the Ecology & Conservation option, which, last time, I taught as two separate entities. Sort of. Whatever...

Now all I have to do is figure out what I'm doing with the grade 9's (which I haven't done in a few years, not this version of grade 9, anyway), and coordinate with about 4 other teachers, all of us supposedly doing the same thing. And I'm the course coordinator. Because I assigned myself to be course coordinator. Whatever!

More again before school starts, I'm sure. Saturday, audi7 and I are meeting Anna for the Annual Teacher Appreciation Breakfast (read freebie-fest!) at Office Depot.
