Harry Potter, as a main character, is pretty passive, and follows no real moral dilemma and overall, his character doesn't really change (beyond the physical changes of growth & puberty).
Severus Snape, instead, is the true protagonist. We're never quite sure if he's good or evil, until Harry views his memories in Dumbledore's pensieve.
