Long Weekend Traditions, Part Deux

So, you already know, if you've been reading previous entries, that on the August Long weekend, a.k.a. the Civic Holiday or Simcoe Day, my friends and I head for a lodge in Tobermory, Ontario. Now, Tobermory is probably best known by divers - lots of shipwrecks can be found, and there is even cave diving nearby.

I'm not a diver. Very few of our group are actually divers (my DH & his friend Ed are), so, other than the beach, and the Sweet Shop, what do we do?

Well...on Saturdays, the boys go golfing. This leaves the girls in care of the kids, so we generally walk into town, visit some shops (or not) and take the kids to the playground. If the boys are thinking when they take vehicles in the morning, they leave us the child-equipped vehicles so we can head to the beach or elsewhere. Not so this time! Oh well, we kept them busy & eventually got to the beach Saturday.

My girlfriends & I are all readers - we bring books to read & exchange, and try & spend at least some of our time reading on the back deck. This year, we were also spending time with Sudoku & other puzzles - I was doing Logic Problems, which gets interesting when tired and/or intoxicated. It keeps my brain sharp, though!

Last year, some of the boys (most notably Ed, Kelly's hubby & my DH's best friend) decided that because they (the boys) got to spend so much time away from us & the kids, the girls should get the same privilege. So, Saturday night, we now head out to the lighthouse, sit on the rocks with drinks & snacks, and have some girl time while the boys put the kids to bed. This year, we also got time Sunday night for a trip to the Sweet Shop, because by the time we got back from the lighthouse Saturday, it was closed.

Other diversions include Scrabble (Daryn beat me by 2 points! I usually kick his butt!!), Cribbage, and Euchre, which I don't play...but there's always a book with my name on it.

Of course, in the evening, we get a fire going and roast marshmallows (Daryn's good at getting them gooey without burning them) and hot dogs, and sit around talking and laughing until the wee hours of the morning.
