Mac vs. PC

I've always been a PC kind of girl...other than my placement at AHSS, where the department computers were Macs, I have always used PCs.

This Christmas, "Santa" brought us a shiny, pretty, 20" iMac. It's slick. Did I mention it's pretty?

My DH got it primarily for "media" usage - slowly, our entire collection of CDs is being stored to an external drive, now easily accessible by iTunes, no jewel cases necessary. The discs are going into storage in binders at some point, as backup, with the cover art. Another summertime project for me, I suppose. He's also using it for video editing, which means that I may have a wedding video some time in the next few years. =)

I don't use the iMac often. The first time I tried, I couldn't find the on switch. (It's a barely-there indentation on the back of the monitor!) Basically, I use it to surf if it's convenient (i.e. I can't be bothered to turn on the other computer or my laptop). I don't like using it to type anything, because I don't particularly like the keyboard.

One thing I've noticed, though, is that some of my animated avatars here on LJ aren't animated when viewed on the iMac. Weird seeing my normally-flickering fire just sitting there in stop-motion.

One cool feature I've recently been introduced to, though, is a little program that pops up when I click the centre mouse button (the rolly one I can scroll with) - I can get the lyrics to whatever song is playing in iTunes. Neat, huh?

Still not enough for me to want to use it fulltime, but it is pretty...
