OKAY SO
Leanne is a laguz - or, in a nutshell, she can shift between a humanoid form and that of a bird, namely a heron. For this precise reason her kin are known as the Heron Tribe, and there all these other technicalities come into play.
Even transformed, Herons are quite physically frail and aren’t the best at defending themselves; all it took was punching a fat man for Leanne’s elder brother, Reyson, to shatter his hollow hand and wrist bones. /o/ As compensation for this, however, they instead have other more arcane abilities that come in quite handy in the battlefield and out of it.
They can perform base Seid magic commonly known as Galdrar - although these won’t be the subject of this particular permissions post, the list of the effects of Galdr can be found in Leanne’s app over
here. Herons are closely attuned with the forces of balance, to the point that their mental and emotional states are often affected by what goes on around them. Chaos and conflict resonate rather badly with them, with such examples as the presence of war. If it gets especially bad they can even take ill from the influence of these sorts of things - while, in contrast, peace and order can have them feeling in high spirits and good health.
This connection with balance seems to grant Herons with abilities that, to an extent, could probably be considered semi-telepathic. Just as her elder brother Reyson can detect the thoughts of those around him, Leanne can see into their hearts, and discern their feelings and integrity, under the right conditions. :| Whiiich finally brings up the main subject of this post.
What’s in your wallet character’s heart? 8)
This can cover various things - long-term pains or fears or pent-up feelings that your character may be carrying, or perhaps conflicts of the very recent present, such as anger or confusion in regards to some other person or problem. In Radiant Dawn, Leanne accurately determined that Naesala was at that time experiencing ‘great suffering’ - this being due to his constant struggle to uphold his nation and willingness to pay high costs against those he cares for to achieve it.
She may also be able to use this ability to discern whether your character is being honest or lying during any one situation, or just how far their integrity goes. She utilizes this with Apostle Sanaki, determining that the girl was in fact utterly sincere in her apologies for the massacre that slaughtered Leanne’s people.
In a nutshell: Is it alright for Leanne to catch the occasional glimpse of your character's heart? And if so, what sort of things might she see?
It should be noted that Leanne still has some deference towards others, and will not actively confront them over the state of their hearts unless she feels a direct need to do such - it’ll be a sort of passive thing that she’ll take mental notes of as she notices. However, she’s not beyond reaching out and offering sympathy or advice if she feels the need arising.
