RL: WHY YOU SHOULD MONITOR CHILDRENS INTERNET TIME D:

Simon was good at wiping people out as a toddler. So it shouldn't have come as a surprise that as soon as he was quiet and not getting himself into anything, Yoko and Kamina had passed out. Simon had contented himself by playing with Boota and the "person-box." It wasn't until an hour or so into their nap that Simon watched the first victim ( Read more... )

Yoko hadn't even paid attention to where she had fallen asleep. All she knew is that it was comfortable, Kamina was there, and the toddler that was Simon wasn't causing a ruckus to wake them up. So sometime during her nap, she had curled up happily against Kamina's form and allowed herself to drift off into dreamland.

That is, until Simon burst through the door and practically leaped at her, waking her up with a jump and causing her to mutter a stifled yelp in surprised.

She sat up as soon as she figured out who it was who had woken her. "S-Simon...?" her voice was groggy thanks to sleep, but she wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly, "What's wrong?"

It was more "small foot kicking him in the nose" than "small person rushing towards the bed" that woke Kamina up from his deep sleep. He sat up, rubbing his nose with the back of a hand and blearily patting Simon on the head with the other. Whatever had happened it was too far-fetched to guess it'd been something bad. "What's the matter?"

"The person booooooooooooooooooooox!" Simon sobbed. "There was somebody on it an-an' then somebody else hurt him a-an'--" he broke off into more tears.

Yoko glanced up from Simon at Kamina, bewildered. "The... person box?"

A huff. "Simon, what have you been looking at on that website?"

He got up without a word to check the "person box" in the other room. Maybe it'd been one of his Westerns that had accidentally come up.

What he found on the screen was much, much worse.

Kamina swore silently to himself. Why did the community think showing this stuff was what people wanted? And now there was a traumatized Simon-let because of it. He shut the lid harder than usual. Damnit, damnit, damnit.

Simon wriggled out of Yoko's arms and stuck his head around the door frame, clinging to it like it was his life line, with tears still falling down his face.

"W-what was it, Aniki?!"

Yoko followed suspiciously.

"Kamina?"

"Somethin' you don't have to worry about, Simon," he said as he returned to his bedroom and picked up the toddler. "Nothing like that's gonna happen here." Kamina's glance to Yoko communicated most of what he couldn't say: something bad was going down and only a few people needed to know; "a few people" being him and her in this case.

Simon latched onto Kamina's neck, burying his face in his shoulder.
