Poor Celeborn; it's got to be hard to be married to a chick like Galadriel. She's powerful, beautiful, and got a magic ring that Sauron's after. She's also related to a bunch of Noldor Kings and has seen Valinor, and thus tends to glow. With a wife like that, no wonder the poor elf is overshadowed.
But still, Celeborn isn't just a trophy husband or anything; he does have accomplishments of his own, aside from being pretty (and yes, he was considered "fair"). For starters, he's related to Thingol, King of Doriath. He was known as "the Wise" before he even met Galadriel--in fact, before Galadriel was referred to as "wise". He's also pretty learned; he was the one who offered the name "Galadriel" to Artanis, daughter of Finarfin, when the tongue of the Noldor was banned in Beleriand. It's even hinted at in the Unfinished Tales that he and Galadriel founded Eregion."
