Should the 11th Doctor Be Sad About the Loss of Rose?

Apr 14, 2010 09:49

So this question has been posed on the Doctor Who Forums at Gallifreybase.com. Now, the original poster of this thread says that he thought that 10's endless moping about Rose was one of his strongest aspects and that regeneration negating that was preposterous...

So what do you think about that, the shippers and even none shippers...

My opinion is no, it's time to move on from the Doctor/Rose. The Doctor/Rose arch was a massive defining event of the RTD's era and it worked very well, particularly with Ten and Rose, but the Doctor left Rose in a parallel world with his clone. He didn't have to do that and he could have told her that he loved her and couldn't be without her, but he didn't. The bed is made, may he lay in it.

After that event, he only got wistful about Rose once, when Rosita introduces herself. 'Good name,' is his response and I can see why, Jackson Lake is projecting the Doctor's feelings I think about attaching himself to a companion by the name of Rose. But he doesn't get all wistful and upset about her again, even when he visits her past self at the end of The End of Time.

Personally, for me, looking back even now, this mopiness deprived us of what could have been a brilliant companion, Martha Jones, although I do also believe the unrequited love arch ruined it as well. But I think Freema did well with the crap RTD gave her.

Now, speaking as a shipper also, it is time to move on with Rose. Maybe I am saying this because I'm not a full Rose/Doctor shipper, I'm a Rose/Ten and Rose/TenII shipper. Although I do acknowledge the romantic feelings of Nine for Rose.

The Doctor, as he is now in his Eleventh incarnation, knows it's time to move on. Rose is gone and he has to assume she is happy with TenII. Perhaps, one day we will get a full resolution to this on screen, but until we do we only have RTD's word for it.

So how does everyone else feel?

sm era, rose tyler, rtd era, 11th doctor, 10th doctor, 9th doctor
