Thought I'd finally make that post about Wizard's First Rule
- So Richard's been wandering around the woods for three weeks and didn't realize he didn't have his knife earlier?
- I didn't realize that Kahlan's power had been changed in the show. The whole "thunder without sound" would have been difficult to portray on tv, so I see why they changed it (I guess they tried it in some of the early trailer though). Since her power actually seems to hurt those in the vicinity I would think that might take away from any moments of passion even though her power isn't actually confessing someone.
- I so thought Kahlan was going to refuse the food at the banquet since the serving girls had long hair. XD And the cheese thing. Kahlan has it in her to be kinda bitchy.
- When Richard was trying to retrieve his stuff from his house through the window and hears his chair sqeaking I immediately started thinking about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Somebody's in my chair!! XD
- I was surprised that Zedd was out for a big portion of the book.
- The slapping with the Mud People had me kinda going "Are you serious?!" I don't know, that just seemed like something out of a bad comedy to me.
- And while I'm on violence, I just can't imagine Richard or Kahlan of the show threatening to kick the other even in jest.
- I'd read the part with the Mud People (starting from them expecting Richard to chose a wife through the gathering) before, but I found the apple scene to be just as amusing the second time through. Like "I can't have my way with you, so together we will ravish this apple instead." XD
- I liked that Kahlan actually was the one to explain to Richard about Confessors and her power. It annoyed me in the show that Kahlan just assumed that Denna told Richard everything properly. She should have made sure Richard got the full details from her even if it would be repeating some of what Denna said.
- For as long as this book is, there isn't really a whole lot that happens. A lot of time is just spent on everything. During the Denna part I was like "Yeah, yeah, yeah, lets get back to Kahlan." Maybe that's just my preference for Kahlan though. ^_^
- So I guess that brings me to Richard. I actually thought he was pretty annoying. Absolutely everyhting is about Kahlan with him! He's like a confessed puppy with her! No kidding her powers wouldn't have an affect on him!
- I finished the book before Bloodline aired, so I was pretty curious how everything with the boxes would be resolved in the show considering Richard didn't read the Book of Counted Shadows. I was amussed how that was answered with pretty much throwing book canon out the window. At least as far as the boxes go. Although it is kinda fun to now know what is going to happen in the show.
I did enjoy the book though. It kept me reading and amused. The above moments are just a few that most stand out to me right now. Feel free to bring up anything else in comments. I'd love to hear others' comments about the book too.
I'm over half way done with Stone of Tears now too, so I should have that finished up soon.
