Denver radio stations are far better than South Florida ones, so I find myself listening to them often. Clear Channel is here, but they are in the minority. There are some nice independently owned places on the dial. Usually I'm either on the classical station (which is commercial-free and fantastic), but I often move through the rest of the dial at some point, too. I have eight of ten pre-settings used on the car radio, which is a record for me.
Yesterday I was listening to two deejays chat with each other about situations in which a pet dog has caused a monumental expense. Apparently, someone at the station brought in their dog recently, and the dog chewed through some wires, inadvertantly pushing the station off-the-air for a couple of hours. Oops! Also, one of the deejays talked about how his dog once dug up and chewed through his front lawn's irrigation and sprinkler system, something which had cost almost $17,000. Oops again!
Then they took callers. The very first one was a woman who told a story that made me sick. Apparently, she has a wealthy attorney aunt who lives in NYC. One day she came home from work to discover that her dog had shredded a Picasso on her wall. He just destroyed a priceless work of art.
Sounds pretty bad, right? Not as bad as this next part. As punishment for shredding her beloved artwork, this woman had the dog put to sleep. I was pissed. I couldn't believe it... a death sentence for a dog is a horrible thing. I hope she doesn't have a baby who pees on her antique Louis XIV chair by accident one day.
I changed the channel.
