I was born in 1971, so I can confidently say I am a child of the 80s, where everything seemed so shiny and glamorous
When going out twice with the same outfit was a sin,
when if you spotted a person with the same outfit or even with the same socks you would have run home to change and cry in shame (and it did not matter if you were a boy or a girl, we were vain and proud of it)
When teen movies were all about making an awful lot of money with the minimum effort (remember Risky Business or the unbelievable For Love or Money with Michael J Fox) and all of your wildest dream would have come true while singing new romantic songs and snogging guys with crazy (but at the time extremely cool)mullets (my Gosh could you believe you ever fancied Limal??? Howard Jones ???? arrghhh)
But then we grew up, and realized that life was not that easy.
In my case i moved to London to live a life like only Molly Ringwald in pretty in pink could have made look glamorous and inhabit a squalid basement just because Pulp made it cool...
And I started to work in a hotel as a receptionist and started working my ass off and getting no frikin' money...fast forward 10 years... i am in the easiest job ever; I spend my days surfing the net bidding on ebay and chatting on MSN and what happens?
Today I had my appraisal and I was informed that I am, after 9 months of working here, one of the best performer of the company... I am in the elite 25% of the company (ok we have 500000 employees worldwide but still)...
And i do nothing... bloody nothing all day....
Isn't it ironic?
Thank you Michael J Fox and Tom Cruise for teaching me how to be successful....
