USA, baby ends in the machine for the control of handluggage
LOS ANGELES - Computer, macchine fotografiche, zaini e bagagli a mano: nulla sfugge ai rigorosi controlli a raggi X negli aeroporti americani. Questa volta è toccato anche a un neonato di un mese, finito per errore sotto la macchina per lo screening delle valigie allo scalo di Los Angeles.
Tutta colpa della nonna che aveva in consegna il piccolo e, nella concitazione dei controlli di sicurezza, si è confusa: ha sistemato il nipotino in uno dei cestini di plastica per il bagaglio a mano e lo ha infilato nella macchina.
Quando l'addetto al video ha visto comparire sul suo terminale la sagoma di un bambino ha fatto un salto sulla sedia, e ha invertito subito la corsa del nastro, rimandandolo indietro.
Il bambino non corre nessun pericolo dicono i medici. E' stato portato al Centinela Hospital dove i sanitari hanno rassicurato sulle sue condizioni: la dose di radiazioni che ha assorbito non sarebbe pericolosa.
Insieme alla nonna, che parla solo spagnolo e non è riuscita a capire correttamente le istruzioni per i controlli, è subito ripartito per Città del Messico.
Ma l'incidente ha riaperto il dibattito sulle misure di sicurezza negli scali statunitensi e sulla mancanza ormai cronica di staff, spesso oberato dal lavoro e non in grado di assistere tutti i viaggiatori personalmente.
L'aeroporto è pieno di cartelli esplicativi, si difendono da Los Angeles. Eppure non è la prima volta che succede. Già nel 1988 un bambino in un seggiolino da macchina era finito nella macchina a raggi X al terminal 4 dello stesso aeroporto. Stesso "viaggio" anche per un neonato di due mesi in Canada, all'aeroporto internazionale di Winnipeg, sempre nello stesso anno.
