I can't be the only person concerned about how the storm above is affecting my home and work. I know I'm not, but I almost feel as though nobody is talking about it. Has anyone been up to check how things are progressing?
I don't mean to sound at all rude, I'm just concerned, is all.

I will meet you outside the cabins, then, and we can wander.

Sounds good to me.
[Up to you, whatever's easiest ^^]

[And with that, Simon shut his journal and went to find Inara, standing at the edge of the path leading away from the cabins.]

Good evening, and how are you?

Great. I could think of a lot worse places to be stranded during a bad storm...
[He cleared his throat.]
Right to the point... about the familiar face I saw. It's Serenity. She was in one of my dreams, the one I had after I died.
[He waits for Inara to reply before elaborating.]

I suppose. It would be even better if there were no storm at all.
[She smiled, shrugging slightly as she listened to him.]
You know, something about her seemed familiar to me as well. I believe I caught glimpses of her playing a game in one of my memories.
[The fact that Simon recognizes her lends credence to her being from the same place they were.]

You're right. Evacuations are always terrible to have to do, and we are not sure exactly what we are going to be coming back to.
[He shook his head, then took a deep breath.]
I didn't recognize her writing, but when I saw her in person, I knew. She mentioned finding Derrick familiar, too- I guess he was there when she was born. She saw Mal in her dream and mistook Derrick for him, which is quite easy to do- until he opens his mouth or his pen, at least. That just lends more weight to it.
[The strong physical resemblance between the two men was a mystery to Simon, almost exact except the fact that Derrick seemed several years older than Mal had been when Simon had seen him- a few more lines on his face, a little gray in his hair. However, that was something to be pondered another time.]

I apologize, I had no reason to take my frustrations over all this out on you. Please forgive me.
[She sighed softly, the stress of the situation evident in her face.]
You know, I had that same issue with Derrick, mistaking him for Mal. In fact, I believe I was able to bond with him somewhat over how such a mistaken impression can affect all of us. I have been remiss in meeting up with her as something about her presence felt almost too familiar, I wonder if she and I were close...
[Inara had long ago given up on trying to understand why Derrick pinged her so hard for Mal, instead accepting that maybe this was the Tree's way of letting her know she'd never encounter the man she once considered the only one she could ever love. It was for the best, regardless.]

No need to apologize. Perhaps you're right that we should be worrying more about what is happening upstairs... on the other hand, there are also those who chose to stay, and I am sure we would hear if anything serious had happened. The most we can do right now is hope that nothing terrible has happened to our homes.
[His expression turned to concern as he looked over at his friend. He had been turning over his own feelings about Serenity in his mind ever since he'd met her.]
It was more than familiarity for me, though. I felt...
[He raised one hand slightly, as if to bite on his finger like usual, but stopped, the hand hovering over his heart.]
I felt happy when I saw her. I can't really explain what it was, and it was fleeting, like everything else I can't remember, but... it was there. Happiness, like a bit of warmth inside my heart.

Still, it's obvious that you're using this as a well-deserved vacation, and who am I to rain on your parade? I cannot imagine why anyone would choose to stay in those conditions, but to each his own I suppose. Our homes, yes, and businesses. Is it wrong of me to feel as though this place has it out for us sometimes, because I do feel that way every now and then. Between the tattoos and now this it's all getting to be a bit much.
[She noticed Simon's concern and quickly rushed to reassure him. Honestly, this place was starting to get to her.]
That must mean you and she were close, I can only think.
[Smirking at the gesture, she could tell what he felt was more than simple elation.]
Do you know if she felt anything similar upon meeting you? Perhaps it's a mutual feeling, and if so wouldn't that be wonderful?
