Bob the Builder is not American.

I just downloaded a Bob the Builder movie and was aghast to discover, upon playing it for the kids, that it's been dubbed in American accents. o-O WTF??

Bob the Builder is, and always will be, English. It's part of the reason I like this show- the British accents. There are so many American accented shows that my almost eight year old has an unconscious American lilt to her speech when it comes to certain words. I buy LeapPad products because one can get them with British rather than American accents.

I have now learned that I have to be way more careful with Bob the Builder, dammit! Wish there was more DirtGirl around, it's one of the few Australian shows that I'm happy for the girls to watch. Which brings me to the main point of this post-

what shows/films aimed at kids are there that aren't rampantly idiotic? The girls like Jimmy Neutron (because 'he's an inventor like dad!' ) but frankly I find the asinine parents and their asinine attitudes gratingly difficult to bear. I'm bemused and often majorly irritated by the whole 'adults, especially parents, are morons' attitude in most kids' shows- it makes finding things that aren't pimping lousy messages almost impossible.

What is out there that promotes intelligent and healthy attitudes? Is there any such thing? Are there *any* kids shows that don't revolve around asinine 'bad' characters that do nothing but create trouble and drama for everyone else to sort out? What about shows produced in countries other than Britain and the US, which seem incapable of demonstrating a healthy attitude in any way at all. :/

For any in my circle that are involved in creating games, cartoons etc, here's a thought- how about creating something for the intelligent, creative and drama-allergic? Parents who love, respect and support their kids, kids that are capable of seeing a twit at forty paces and know better than to get involved with them, kids that can work things through interdependently, multi-generational perspectives- it's the reason I love Meet the Robinsons, one of the best films to come out in the last two decades when it comes to presenting a creative, inventive and 'different' family in a healthy and uplifting way.

Perhaps I'm going to have to write my *own* blasted shows. lol.

*goes off to find more British Bob*
