Like most nights, Pete’s here with Mikey. Though literally speaking he’s not actually with Mikey, as Mikey’s already found a few people to go off with. He can hardly hold a grudge about being ditched though, since it’s the entire point of being here. Here it’s better. Pete can find someone that wants to hit him rather than someone that’s moderately willing to hit him. Here Mikey gets people that don’t find it awkward to tell him exactly what he should be doing with each instant of time.

Pete smiles when sees Gabe. He’s good with a whip, which is something Pete could really go for tonight. He approaches, “Hey Gabe.”

“Oh. Pete. Hi. What are you doing tonight?”

Pete shrugs. “No premade plans. How about you, you busy?”

Gabe shrugs back. The drink on the bar in front of him is all ice, only the very bottom a light brown to prove it was cola.

“How about that beauty” he asks, gesturing to the whip slung anything but casually over Gabe’s shoulder.

“She’s free too. Come.” Despite the strong words, Gabe almost seems like he’s hesitating as he leads Pete to a nearly empty room. But of course that doesn’t make sense. He’s a dom, doms don’t hesitate. Not in a place like this, anyway.

It’s a stingy whip. Not super hardcore, no one wants to break skin with a stranger. Fluidbonding equipment with oneoffs can get expensive. Pete does want to try it, if he ever gets a long term boyfriend. But the bite of the leather cracking against his skin is more than enough for now.

The first blow is like nothing else. It’ll get better later, for some definition of the word, when he really falls into it. When he’s fucking swimming in the feeling. But there’s just something about the first hit in any scene. It says ‘you can have this, even if people think you shouldn’t’. In a world filled with assholes trying to take things from you, it’s really nice to get something.

Gabe’s getting into a rhythm, and Pete can’t help but love it. Gabe’s good at this. Gabe is a master at this, in the original sense of being extremely skilled, not just the scene titles thing Pete doesn’t really go for. Still, there’s something off. Pete hesitates for only a moment before safewording.

The handle of the dropped whip clatters on the floor as Gabe proceeds to freak out. It’s the first time Pete’s seen Gabe like this and it’s endearing. “Oh my god. Did I hurt you Pete? Like too much? I’m so-

“Stop.”

“But I didn’t mean to hurt you that-”

“Stop.” Pete repeats. “I am officially safewording against your freaked out talking. You did not hurt me. Well, too much. You weren't even in the neighbourhood of just right yet. Trust me, I’m not the type to suffer silently and stoically if I don’t like something. If we have to interrupt my mother’s prime tv schedule to call and ask for proof I will.”

“No I believe you. You’re not really the quiet type Pete.”

“I didn’t tap out over overwhelming pain. I tapped out because I thought it might not be. Not gonna say it for sure wouldn’t have been great. But we do this a lot, you’re pretty much the only dom I talk to here. I can tell something’s wrong, and it’s harder to be great when you’re not in the mood. So what is it? Tell me so you can get normal and do this the way you know how to.”

Gabe sees through the phrasing Pete’s used. “You safeworded for my behalf?”

Pete shrugs, relishing that start of a burn when his skin shifts. “Look, I don’t know a lot about your life outside this club, but I have a policy of friends first, scenes second. So yes I want to know if something’s wrong, and not just ‘cause it might fuck up your stride.”

“There’s this guy here. I’ve overheard him a bunch of times. He’s really interesting, and funny. And he’s hot as hell. If I’d met him anywhere else, I’d ask him out on a date.”

Pete blinks. There’s obviously a but in there, so he might as well say it. “But?”

“I’m sure he’s a dom. I don’t even switch. It would never work.”

“You’ve heard him talking enough to develop a crush. You ever hear him introduce himself?”

In Pete’s opinion what Gabe needs is a fantasy where the guy decides to submit and they live happily ever after. Like if Cinderella left a custom build hobble on the stairs so she could run away faster and the prince krew immediately, and put her in subspace in front of her jealous stepsisters. But it’s hard to build a dream to pass on to Gabe if Pete doesn’t even know a name.

“Mikey.”

“Wait.” No way. No way does Gabe have a crush on his best friend/platonic lifemate. “Mikeyway?”

“I don’t know, I never heard a last name. Probably? Michael’s a common name, but how many adults call themselves Mikey? Why? Did you sub with him? Did he seem like he could switch?”

Pete is not a cockblock. Neither is he under the illusion that Gabe is his. Yes they hook up nearly every Friday, but they’re hardly dating. Pete doesn’t even know if Gabe has a house or an apartment. “Mikey’s not a switch. He’s a sub. I dunno why you thought dom, but he’s not. Definitely sub. But he’s not me. He doesn’t do liberal amounts of pain. It’s more orders. I mean you could order him to take the pain and he probably wouldn’t safeword, but it wouldn’t do anything for him. Really he wants someone to tell him he’s perfect and he did what he was told to perfectly.”

It’s only when Pete shuts up that he thinks maybe there’s middle ground between not being a cockblock and sharing all Mikey’s secrets. But really, he just wants Mikey happy, and maybe if there are more facets to Gabe he could be. Gabe’s a great dom for him, afterall.

Pete considers it a good sign that Gabe looks thoughtful. Being the man he is, he presses. “Is that your thing?”

“You said it was a limit before I could say that I like it but don’t need it.”

Pete stoops to pick up Gabe’s whip and give it to him handle first, in much the same way you’d pass a gun butt first. Then he exits the room in search of Mikey, unsurprised when Gabe follows.

Mikey isn’t that hard to find. He’s kneeling between two sitting women, content in a way the same position could never make Pete. Pete doesn’t want to interrupt -except for how he really does- so he doesn’t barge over, only attempts to make eye contact. When Mikey looks at him Pete gives a little ‘come here’ toss of his head, then smiles and shrugs to make sure Mikey knows it’s not an emergency. With a twist to the side he says something to the women, then stands and crosses to Pete.

“This is your normal guy, right?”

Gabe looks a little startled, which is dumb. Of course Mikey knows who Pete’s main play partner is. He and Mikey are co dependent, compatible in every way except sex drive. They tried a thing for a bit where Pete ordered Mikey to hurt him, but it didn’t work. It would be much better if Gabe could just dom them both, and then they could hang out.

“He likes you.”

“I can speak for myself Pete.”

“He really likes you. I think he should come home with us.”

Maybe that’s not all that fair to Mikey when Mikey hasn’t had the chance to try him. It probably isn’t. But it has to be destiny, doesn’t it? Between the three of them they could have a solid relationship, and Pete wants to try.

bandom, advent
