You know how sometimes you don't engage in a fandom for a while, then you come back to it out of nostalgia/curiousity, and it just doesn't fit anymore?
THAT IS THE OPPOSITE OF TONIGHT *flail*
I just watched six episodes of Skins in a row. Between HP and Bandom it was my primary fandom. I CAN SEE WHY. My GOD.
I think everyone has relationship archtypes they like more than others. Some lead innately to pairings, and sometimes it's fun wiggling things so a pairing you like can fit. My two are best friends and D/s. A perfect best friends pairing is Harry/Ron. A perfect D/s pairing is Spike/Xander. Now, if I liked hatesex, I could still make Harry/Ron work, mad_martha did this perfectly with the beginning of her Two Houses 'verse. But skewing pairings to fit tropes is a-whole-nother post. The important bit this time around is that I like best friends and D/s best.
Skins, (cast one) is the only tv show I've watched where best friends are so CLEARLY in a D/s relationship. It boggles the fucking mind. Tony picks out Sid's clothes. He arranges opportunities for Sid to get laid. He writes his homework for him when Sid would fail otherwise. Sid literally follows him everywhere. At one point Tony walks in on Sid jerking off. Tony looks at him for a minute, then says "I'm going to walk out and come back in again." Instead of telling Tony to fuck off for five minutes Sid just gets redressed and tries to ignore his erection. HE STICKS THINGS IN HIS ASS WHEN TONY TELLS HIM TO.
And there are punishments! If he's not presentable enough Tony turns him away. When he turned down an opportunity for sex Tony got clearly upset and later made him sleep in a different room.
Basically, I love this show, and I had to stop watching at six, because one more and I was going to bust out Gdocs and start writing more fic. (I might anyway.)
