So. I'm not actually going to link to each one of my fics. Because that would be a giant pain in the ass. But I'm still doing the meme.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I hadn't predicted anything, but I think it's approximately the same. *does futher math* My spread sheet says this year I wrote 301 381 words alone, 19626 cowords with Elle, and 158000 cowords with Jasley. If it's fair to claim half, that's 89k, so 390k. Last year I wrote 373k. So a bit more than last year :D
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
What I find really interesting is that it 2011 was mono fandom. Last year I had three major fandoms, this year it was all bandom. That's not to say I didn't write crossovers, because that's nine fics at 49k. But they were all from bandom pov. I also wrote a few instances of het; First Night (Mikey/Alicia/Bebe werewolves) and Get Down With The Sickness (Frank/Jamia/Gerard threesome pandemic).
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Never Even Considered For Mass Production was awesome. It was for crossover bigbang, I crossed the X-Men trilogy and, well, every band. I got to play with pov, as each section was from a different one, and I got to deal with issues like equality and safety and activism. And Creepalious made me amazing art.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Hell yes. I pretty much officially decided I'll write what I want to, what makes me happy, without caring about readers. And in general it works out well, I still get my five comments. This revelation started with me and Jasley's cofic Skanon (The Twelve Steps To A Chalk Outline) which is 90k of Mikey/Gerard/Frank/Brendon being serial killers. We were sure no one would read it, but we had so much fun writing it that we didn't care, it was it's own reward. And then we got claimed for two mixes, and we got 4 peices of art. It might not have been read by a hundred people like the "normal" Frank/Gerard ones, but it was liked by the people that read it. I just sort of followed that trend after that.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Just like in 2011, distribute BB's fairly. One to Mikey, Ray, Gerard, Frank, one to my OT3 of Pete/Mikey/Gabe, and one to Panic.
I also have a Mikey/Gerard bingo card I want to blackout, a Mikey/Gerard/__ card to blackout, and I want to finally finish my 2010 AU bingo.
Keeping up with my trend of odd pairings, I wrote out the seventeen characters I enjoy writing, all of them paired with each other. This ends up being 153 pairings. I've written some already, like Brendon/Ray and Gabe/Gerard, (and the obvious like Mikey/Frank and Pete/Patrick) but I want to write all of them. This might take more than 2012, but I'm gonna do my best.
Lastly, I want to write more cofic with Jasley, and finish slantverse with Elle. I think there are about 50 fics left for Slantverse, and god knows me and Jasley create new concepts every day.
My best story of this year.
Killin' Before Killin' Was Cool. I had the concept in my head FOREVER, and I nearly didn't write it because the first person I told it to thought it was stupid. Thank god for Jasley, who is a confidence booster. I think it came out really well. Creepy. There were only a handful of instances of hardcore violence, but they worked so well that the entire story was a headfuck.
My most popular story of this year.
Hmm. *looks* Commoner and Scribe got 15 comments, When Home is a Menagerie got 18. So confused Mormon Brendon being adopted by Alex Suarez, Mikey, Gerard, and Pete wins.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion.
The Capacity of Man. A Ray-centric story about specialised humans living on different planets, and Ray visiting them and experiencing their ways of life. It got a piece of art, since it was a BB. But it also got 0 comments. I'm not saying it's the best thing I've ever written, but I especially liked the Ashlee/Pete/Patrick section. It should have gotten at least one comment applauding that bit.
Most fun story to write.
Skanon was amazingly fun. Holy shit you guys, you don't even know how many times we cracked up writing Ryan being a diva and the disgusting Way house. Also All Inclusive is really fun to write, in a different way. Trying to figure out how to incorperate all the bands I like into Battery City and the zones, my obsessive compulsive brain is all \o/ WHEEEEEE \o/
Story with the single sexiest moment.
Hands down the 'forced' bathroom scene in A Year Older, A Dozen Orgasms Better. I love the dynamic Frank and Matt have in Slantverse so fuckin' much, and their relationship gets right into the heart of it in that scene. Public embarassment, enjoying being forced but bitterly fighting it, everyone else having an opinion, Matt not really 'winning' because they're both happy. I mean, the entire fic is great, it's a 17k orgy. But the question said single moment, and that's the best in it.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story.
Spencer killing the hobo. SKV is me and Jasley's other serial killer 'verse. It actually came first, hence the basic acronym. It's a LOT darker than Skanon, and gets worse in the sequels. In SKV Spencer kills a hobo. They all kill a lot of people, actually. But I cannot read, or even think about that scene without going I'M SORRY HOBO. I have so much guilt over it. We can't cut the scene, it's important, but UGH. POOR HOBO.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters.
I don't think I really had one? I think I write them basically the same each time. In a good way, I think, they have consistancy.
Hardest story to write.
There and Back Again with jasley barely got finished. It got progressively more difficult, and then I went to London for two weeks so we had to hand in a not-ficced fic, the last five or six scenes. The Deeper Meanings of Wearing Someone Else's Shoes was hard too. I'd written half of it, then waited a few months to do the second half, and you could tell. It required so much editing to splice them together and make it work.
Biggest surprise.
Between Twelve and Twenty A Minute. You were supposed to be one fic, ONE FILL for anon lovefest. And then someone asked me for a sequel, and then Elle wanted to write a sequel, and then I decided to do it for Kink Bingo, and all of a sudden it's projected to have over 100 fics. THANKS, STUPID ONESHOT.
Most unintentionally telling story.
Well, it's my Mikey bigbang for polybb, but a) that's not posted, and b) I didn't count it in the wordcount since it's not posted. So, probably A State of Orange because I truly, fullheartedly believe that multiple relationships can work, as long as everyone is honest about it.
In conclusion.
I like Waycest, I like threesomes, I like GSF. I like cowriting. I like serial killers, I like high school. I like boys being gross and stupid, I like kink, I like h/c. Mikey will always be my favourite, but I can write just about everyone. If you stay on my flist this year, you're bound to see more of all of these things. :D
