Through the attempted romaji (which I did very well at) and the PV with the female vampire ruining my dreams (long story)... And also through the my laptop decided to close down on me while I was in the middle of translating this song and I have not yet saved it event, I finally brought my courage up to finish translating this song with the title which confuses people to the utmost of its ability. The c/w - noesis - isn't included because, evidently, I have not yet translated it. Well, at least I haven't yet found a way to put it down in the language which we call English. Since I don't want people to keep waiting and waiting, I'll put this up first. Now then, since you've all waited quite a bit, then you can endure just a teensy bit more waiting Hm? Notes:
1. Let's break this extremely long title which translates to an extremely long (and not to mention -- confusing) sentence down. Have I thoroughly confused you yet? Okay, to begin with, the basic meaning of this title is to say: I knew my love for you would never ever reach you (or you would never ever know that I love you), but I continued loving you anyway because (for whatever reason) I just simply cannot control myself; simply cannot stop loving you. I used "unreachable love" here because it's a very literal translation of "todokanai ai". It was presented as a noun, not as a verb, in the original Japanese, so I kept it that way.
1* - In the song, instead of the original "todokanai ai to shitteita no ni osaekirezuni aishitsuduketa", he sang "todokanai ai to shitteiru no ni aishitsuduketa". This basically turns the verb "shiru" (to know) from past tense into present progressive.
2. The word used here is "amai", which is commonly translated to "sweet". However, there are other nuances of this word - including "indulgent", "optimistic", "easy-going" - that you may want to take into account and create your own feel to the song and its meaning.
3. The word "hibi" translates to "day after day", "everyday", etc., where it shows emphasis on the quantity. It isn't just a few days here and there, it's implying "every" day.
4. By putting an "although" there, the sentence kind of doesn't make any sense. However, it makes sense if you connect it with the next sentence below it ("The one reflected...") as it was meant to be connected that way.
5. The "it" there is referring to "the days we spent together".
6. Some of you must wonder why I put a note for this word that is used in every other Gackt song; that a fan would probably be forced to understand it. Well, since I've read of complaints about Gackt using the same words over and over and over and over again, I thought this would be the classic example to show you that -- yes, he does use this word a lot; however, there are three basic nuances for this word, so even if he does use it very much, you can take your time to think about it and place the correct nuance in. It makes a difference. The word starts with the basic verb form "daku" which can mean "to hold", "to hug" and "to embrace". The form that Gackt uses a lot is "dakishimeru" which basically adds "closely" to the three meanings contained within the basic form -- "to hold closely", "to hug closely" and "to embrace closely. It adds intimacy.
7. "...in these arms..." can also be translated to "...in my arms...". I used "these" as my choice of wording because it was a literal translating from the original Japanese.
8. The word "hanasanai" which comes from the root "hanasu" with the meanings of "to part", "to leave", "to let go", "to set free", "to loosen one's hold", "to separate", etc. By changing to root into "hanasanai", it has become negative -- "to not part", "to not leave", "to not let go", etc. There are two kanjis' used for this verb. One with more of the meaning of "to let go" and one with more of the meaning of "to separate". The one used in this context is the latter one; however, when it comes to Gackt, all the meanings are and can be taken into account. Use your own judgement on which you think best suit the song.
9. The word "terenagara" used in the song comes from the root "tereru" which can mean "shy" and/or "awkward". Use your own judgement to decide which best suit the song.
10. Another one of those words that has different meanings -- "yasashiku" coming from the root form "yasashii" has the meaning of "gentle", "tender", "kind", "amiable", "graceful".
11. The word "yureru" means "to shake", "to sway". However, the feeling here is that the image of this person is shaking (or swaying) like it is a vision of some sort.
12. The word used here - "komorebi" - is one of those words that just cannot be translated without a long and complicated sentence. "Komorebi" is a word that describes days when the sun is shining brightly and the lightbeams from the sun filters through the trees and their leaves to project shadows on the ground which results in a mixture of shadow and light dancing and glittering.
13. By heat haze, it is implying something similar to a "mirage" or "hallucination". In the heat, people see things; shimmering water-like things. This also refers back to the 11th note. The whole feeling of it is that the person he sees was but a wavering hallucination caused by the heat of that summer (the note for this is next).
14. This feeling implies that he has lost the sense of time, where it has become "one" summer and not "that" summer. Which summer was it? Not quite sure. All that he knows now that it happened in "one" summer.
15. It's that feeling where there is a small, slightly painful, tightening sensation that occurs in your chest area/cavity when you think of something which makes you feel strong emotions.
16. Can also be translated to "heart" instead of "chest".
17. "Returning" to how they used to be; to the "days" which they "spent together".
18. Can also be translated to "to persuade".
19. Implying the "second" time that they meet - if they ever do - connecting with the sentence prior to it.
20. "Kareru" is the word used here, which commonly translates to "to wither". In this context, however, it can also mean "to die out", "to dry out", etc. Basically, until his voice is no longer there.
So... o_o that's that. It's way too late at night for me to start putting noesis down in words. In fact, I'll be thinking myself to sleep - How should I word this and that? I want to present to all of you the kickass lyrics of noesis in the same kickass way as the Japanese!! Hopefully, I'll be able to do it. So please have a little more patience and wait for a bit more!
In other news, Cheri bought her first ever Japanese dictionary today o_o... And also this thing that came with CDs and has lessons on Japanese. I'm learning Japanese officially!! Albeit, by myself, but nevertheless, it's scheduled learning with materials and all that... o_o!!! I figured if I'm not suited for Japanese (as said by my aunt, who seems to want me to not come in touch with Japanese at all for some obscure reason), then I'll go get Japanese for myself!! o_o... xD YAY!
