Movie Reviews & Stuff

   HOORAY!! MY iPOD LIVES!!

Ahem. So, over the weekend we rented some movies: Chuck and Larry, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Evan Almighty, Shrek the Third, Meet the Robinsons, Peter Pan 2, and Snow White. Now, I didn't watch all the movies (Chuck and Larry, Evan Almighty, and Peter Pan 2), but the ones I did I'll voice my opinion on.

1) Atlantis: The Lost Empire  (**** out of *****)

I used to hate this show. I don't see why, now, it's actually really good! A bit quick-moving, as the storyline tends to pounce a bit, but overall it's very entertaining, great story of Atlantis, and nice to look at. Four out of five stars, from moi.

2) Shrek the Third (** out of *****)

What the Hell happened here?! OK, so Shrek is over the whole meet-the-parents bit, and now we get to see him attempt to both accept the fact that he's a father while trying to act like a King then replace himself with another person--funny, right? Not exactly. Sure, there was a few parts where I could giggle a bit, but nowhere near as funny as the first two Shrek movies. If anything, the weep and feel sorry for me theme was overplayed when Arthur came, and he was trying a little too hard to be funny. The other Shrek movies were FUNNY. This one was disappointing; "Best Shrek Movie Yet"? Hardly. Two out of five stars, OUCH.

3) Meet the Robinsons (***** out of *****)

This movie was adorable! This is what Disney's all about (Pixar, you haven't failed, yet). Orphan genius Louis is a young inventor-wannabe, while he focuses on getting adopted. often times, he stays up all night working on his inventions, usually keeping his roommate Michael "Goob" up, too (poor kid has MAJOR insomnia). Right away, we feel the theme thrust upon us (comfortably, though) as Louis' peanut-butter-and-jelly-toast maker fails during his 124th parent-child interview (youch).  But my favorite thing is the character personalities. I was really into Louis and his very nerdy appearance, and I've always fallen for the genius type. The best part is, even though he dresses like a nerd, he's NOT pathetic, just lost like any other orphaned kid would be. I immediately fell in love with side-characters Goob and Wilbur. Older, "evil Goob" was hilarious, and it's amazing how UGLY he got (he was a cute teenager). Wilbur was funny, good-looking (I would have never guessed he was Louis' son, he looks almost exactly like his mom), and an overall great character. He did the wrong thing at times, but always earned forgiveness--I mean, c'mon, he's adorable with his 60s style clothing and crazy cowlick! Very good. Five out of five.
