At home - as the ambassador's residence both is and is not - Caius relaxes as much as he ever does, a sheathed sword at least for a while. Mexico was...interesting (the ripples outwards equally so), but the indulgence of his grief has to come to an end and he has a job in DC to get back to.
The past week or so - less than that - he's taken to smoking around Mina less. He doesn't comment on it, and it's a fairly subtle shift in his habits, but he expects she'll notice. She's an observant woman. He isn't, as a matter of fact, actually thinking about Mina noticing and what Mina might therefore do upon noticing right now - he's leaning out a window in his office, the room smelling of a previous hour's tobacco and the coffee he's been drinking. He's taking a break.
