Incest in fic

A friend recently (at lunch) went off about an author, of a story she was reading, who didn't warn for incest. (Based on the number and types of other warnings the author did supply, I'm sure that lack was an accident.)

She then got mad at me because I didn't get upset, or not as upset as she thought I should be about the whole concept. I made it worse when I started laughing and had a hard time stopping.

The 2 fandoms I know of that have a lot of incest fic are Numbers and Supernatural. I don't read the fic because I'm not interested in the shows or the characters, not because some of it is incest based.

As attached as I get to the characters in the shows I follow, I never forget they do not exist in my reality. What they might or might not do in their own realities is their business. In this reality they are not real and the actors that play these characters are not related.

I would be upset by fic if it was about related characters that were portrayed by actual relatives, such as Rodney McKay and Jeannie McKay-Miller portrayed by an actual brother and sister pair or if an rps/rpf fic was written about actual relatives. My friend could not or would not grasp the difference.

Is there a right or wrong here, or do we both need an attitude adjustment?
