Veni, Vidi, Vici

Vacation is quickly coming to a close, and though the second part of the manuscript has come into focus, I haven't done as much work on it as I was planning. But maybe I needed to regroup. And it's not that I haven't been writing...I wrote two poems on Tuesday. I guess I'm in that sort of mood lately. Also, finally got a MySpace up and running: http://www.myspace.com/orphicquill.

The trip to Bishop was great, and I went bouldering again yesterday, so my hands are totally ragged (showers are fun when you feel like a pincushion). Getting away for a while and focusing on something as meditative as rock climbing was definitely something I needed (and I don't sleep well enough on hard ground to dream). My return was greeted with bittersweet news, however, relating to two of my friends, and someone I was beginning to think of as a friend. Relationships are strange things. I've decided to boycott them myself.

So anyway, I wrote this poem, something really simplistic, and I think I thought I was writing it for someone, but maybe it was just to me...The other poem I wrote deals with the father-daughter theme like The Land of Ire , only much darker. Don't know why that's what I'm writing right now, being as I've never been a father, much less a daughter, but whatever. I'll post this one, though, because it's more upbeat.

(little known fact: until now, i've never used the words 'empathy' or 'sympathy' in my poetry...not once. i find that strange.)

Empathy

hang in.
hang on.
be brave.

sleep.
don’t sleep.
stay sane.

slipping,
sliding,
hold on.

get on,
get over,
go on.

dreams,
no dreams,
just drift.

falling,
flying,
forge anew.

melt more.
thaw now.
try to

be borne,
or only
carry

as much
as you
are able to.

be cool.
be kind.
be quiet.

wounds, weave.
heart, heal.
mind, mend.

patient,
pained,
but better.

still standing.
still strong.
be still.
