i ran to work this morning. from my place to work is about 13.5, but my marathon training schedule has me doing a 17 mile run this saturday. since i am leaving for the gorge tomorrow and didn't want to have to get up at 4am to run 17 miles, i added some to the work run. the total this morning ended up being 16.75 at a pretty slow pace. i had forgotten to bring clothes to work the day before so i had to run with some clothes in a backpack. it wasn't very heavy, maybe 2 lbs and this would be my longest run with clothes on my back.
running across the i-90 floating bridge is not one of my favorite things to do. the cars are right at eye level, really noisy and going fast. the 20 minutes spent on mercer island felt like an hour, but it was pretty. after about 6 miles my backpack started to feel heavy and a little uncomfortable. running from factoria up into eastgate was hard and slow going. at the east edge of eastgate it was raining and i was concerned that my extra clothes would be all wet. the i-90 bike path starts up again on the edge of eastgate, for about 2 miles following right next to 90, then you hit lake sammamish parkway and there is no sidewalk at all for another mile or so. i ran straight to work, because i was worried about the contents of my pack. my bag is awesome! nothing was wet. after dropping my stuff off, i left again for the few miles i needed to make it to 17 (insane dedication). i stopped and got some food and ran back to work. it wasn't 17, but it was close enough for me for today. 16.75 miles in 2 hours and 26 minutes. my legs ache.
