Yu-Gi-Oh is the property of Konami and Kazuki Takahashi, and this work is only a very appreciative celebration, from which I hope to derive no profit of any kind.
Tidy, from the swoop of his silver hair to the precise cross of one red-trousered leg over the other, with no stray hair out of place, no wrinkle or pucker of the forehead to disturb his calm elegance, Pegasus sits on the beat-up old yellow armchair like he's in the Judge's box on Duelist Kingdom. He could be anywhere and look like that, you think, watching him, as serenely at-home among the cannibals on Borneo, as he is here in the Jounuchi living room.
In thinking that, you'd be wrong.
"It's so romantic." All girls in Japan have soft sweet voices, and Shizuka is no exception. She's soft and sweet all over, and her brown eyes are like limpid pools, as she leans forward and coos Pegasus her sympathy. "Onii-chan told me all about it," she says, "and I practically couldn't help crying. You were just a teenager when she died, just my age. And after that you could never love again."
"But you shouldn't have done all those bad things." -- Soft little cooing voice, and a soft hand patting him on the arm. Hell, even her brown hair is soft, and a little perfume-tasting, as it falls into Pegasus' mouth when she leans forward. -- "Stealing jii-chan's soul, and trying to kill Yuugi and that." What is she, fifteen? Sixteen? She probably doesn't know what death means, and thinks dead people all wake up the next morning safe in bed with their teddy bears.
"I can't blame you too much though," she says. "After all, onii-chan couldn't have paid for my operation if it weren't for your tournament. And I never did say thank-you." Shizuka leans forward. "Can I give you a kiss?"
Those big brown eyes of hers (that he paid for) are suddenly very close to his face. Her Hello Kitty-pink lipstick is within smelling distance (it smells of strawberries). Pegasus shifts back a little. "You realize, I'm here because I'm going on a date with your brother?"
"Awww!" Shizuka clasps her soft little hands. "Because of her, you can never love another woman again!" She leans in; he feels her strawberry-pink, Kitty-smelling lips against his cheek. "You're the most romantic boy onii-chan's ever gone out with!"
Shizuka scampers away, and Pegasus is alone in the Jounuchis' dingy living room. And you'd think he'd be relieved, but instead he's still thinking about her. And half of him's pleased that she called him a boy instead of an old man. And the other half's just wondering, how the hell many other boys has she seen her onii-chan go out with?
