For
Dirj, here is my half of our gift-exchange. Hope this lowers the bar a little for you dear XD
Fandom: Yuugiou
Pairing: YamixYuugi
Disclaimer: No, I don't own the series, for which most of the fandom is probably no end of grateful.
Yami's like a cat, inspecting everything, sniffing it practically, examining all the things that seem so normal to Yuugi, who's seen them every year of his life. "You put a fake tree inside your house," he says -- He's already inspected it. He's inspected every part of it, looked at every ornament, and studied how the plugs hook together, and turned the lights on and off a few times from the switch on the wall. -- "Why, Yuugi?"
His friend shrugs. Why indeed? Because it's pretty? Because his mother likes it and she got a good deal at a department store downtown? -- Because it's Christmas? -- Then instead of saying anything about that, he grins. "The light makes your hair shine, mou hitori no boku," he says instead. "See?" He touches it very gently, adding "the red lights make your red streaks glow, and the yellow ones make the rest of it shine like gold."
Yami doesn't say anything. He doesn't say anything for a long time, then, slowly, he smiles himself. "Your hair's shining too, aibou." He cups Yuugi's face with one hand, "and so are your eyes," he says.
There's a silence, a silence that lasts maybe two minutes. Yuugi's hand is still on Yami's hair, Yami's hand is still curved against his Other's face. Then Yuugi speaks, maybe he's feeling a little embarrassed. "There's some Christmas cake left in the refrigerator," he says.
Yami huffs a little. He makes the obligatory comments about why, in a country where no one even drinks milk, is it necessary to celebrate this holiday with strawberry shortcakes full of whipped cream? He also points out that in Egypt where he comes from -- which might as well be the whole world from the way he says it -- no one eats shortcake, with or without strawberries, and they certainly don't eat whipped cream. But he's got a slice cut by the time he stops talking. And he feeds Yuugi cream-covered bites of it as they sit by the tree together, and the lights turn both their hair into gold.
Next, for my darling
Madam_Pegasus's birthday, here is another Christmas fic.
Fandom: Batman
Pairing: Mad HatterxHarley, not very serious for either of them
Disclaimer: No, I don't own the series, for which most of the fandom is probably no end of grateful.
The way he bows when he opens his door for her, you'd think he was wearing a tail coat, and he sweeps off a hat that isn't there, before greeting his "Alice". She responds in kind, because you gotta when you're Alice. She makes a curtsey too, which feels kinda weird, these uniforms they give you at Arkham ain't really made for curtseying in.
And she takes her place at the table -- with an imaginary March Hare on one side of her, and an imaginary Dormouse on the other -- and she folds her hands in her lap like a good girl, which would sure as hell surprise a lot of guys on the police force outside in Gotham City if they could see her. And, "it's my Un-Birthday today," she says to her host confidingly.
He responds with great surprise -- just as if she ain't told him the exact same thing every single time she's been here -- "why really?" he says clasping his hands, "why today's my Un-Birthday too!" And he gives her tea out of an imaginary teapot, and cuts a slice from a giant imaginary Un-Birthday cake that she thinks he thinks is in the middle of the table.
It's not just their Un-Birthday, today's Christmas Eve too. Christmas Eve at Arkham, and she came here like she does every Christmas Eve, like she's done every year ever since she figured out that when her Puddin busts himself out for the holidays, he's only got one person on his mind, and that person's the Batman, not a hench-wench, no matter how willing.
A girl likes to get noticed now and then, especially on Christmas, and one thing you can say about Jervis Tetch, at least the guy's always a gentleman. He always greets her real nice, and he always shares whatever he's got with her -- Even if whatever he's got is mostly always just imaginary -- and he always says how nice the visit's been when she goes.
And that's how come Harley visits the Mad Hatter every Christmas Eve. It's why she undoes her usual ponytails and fastens her blonde hair back with a sweet little Alice-blue hairband. It's why she curtseys and acts all pretty, acts like she ain't no one's hench-wench for one night outa the year, like she's a good young lady instead. It's why she always brings along a sprig of mistletoe too. And after Jervis serves his imaginary tea, after he's buttered his imaginary watch, and stuffed the imaginary Dormouse into his imaginary teapot, she always brings it outa her pocket and shows it to him. And then every Christmas Eve, Harley Quinn and the Mad Hatter share a Christmas kiss.
