grammar question

As a practice, I translate certain comic strips into Gaelic. Today, while translating the phrase "to ride a bicycle", I felt certain the direct object of the infinitive verb should go before the verbal noun. I know that in incomplete verbs, this is the case, but I can't find a general rule.

I am asking if my gut feeling is correct in this case?
